No doubt but screw Joe Rodgers Jr and the millions he gives GT

If you go into a WH and you see people behind the counter that look like they could be front-office people, they probably are. They require all of the "suits" to work at their stores so often. They don't want them to lose touch with where it happens.
All supervisors and managers are assigned a store on holidays. I once saw Joe Rogers, Jr., busing tables and washing dishes on Christmas Eve about 1:00 am.
When I was a computer salesman in the 1970s I would sometimes stop at the Waffle house on Columbia Drive next to their old headquarters and have coffee. Joe Rogers Sr., would come in and we chatted. He would ask about other WHs I stopped at and if i told him a bathroom was dirty or the service was poor he would call the district manager and tell him to meet him at that store in an hour. Store got cleaned up and sometimes new employees. Sr. was a great guy. Jr. not so much.

CFA breakfast became dead to me when they eliminated the breakfast platter.
I still like the Chicken minis though.

I had a woman (no pics) work for me years ago at a CC on St. Simons Island. She and her husband moved there because he opened the first WH on the island as its GM.
WH general manager's salaries start in the six figures. But, he said it took him nearly a decade to get to that level with the company. And he was the last line of defense if someone called out.

Corporate GMs crush.
I prefer working for smaller restauranteurs but expect to end up in a corporate store eventually. Cash in on my resume/experience towards the end of my days. Although, as you mention, a lot of times they promote from within.

Like where?
The corporate restaurant business model
is all but dead especially mid tier family places.
Obviously the places discussed on here are doing well but thats not the trend.

Am I the only one who wants to hear about 1970s computer sales?
Seems like trying to sell cars in the 1870s.

Computers handling automation logic for factories (and other things) go back to the 1950's. It really took off after 1947.

You must be young. If he was selling computers in the 70's, those were the big boys, IBM, Honeywell, etc. Probably made a killing.

Killing is a extreme understatement.
My brother was a IBM rep in the 70's.
90% of his accounts were leased deals with update and service agreements.
It was a continuous flow of residual commissions.

Why don't the British make computers? Can't figure out how to make 'em leak oil.

Bojangles. Duh.
Would do it under the right circumstances.

I was thinking along the lines of cracker barrel, bdubs, etc. You know. The survivors.
Or hotel.
Or country club.
It's not an ideal time in the industry. But those who were versatile and able to change their approach quickly are thriving.
I fully expect the desire for chain restaurants to return. Especially those with strong to go programs. Outback comes to mind. Most people eat like shite.

My former neighbor in Athens cheffed all around town for decades at the hip places, finally went "corporate" at UGA and quit six months in because it sucked so bad. Good money and excellent benefits but just hated the corporate job aspect of it. He'd rather be poor and prideful and happy than have money. God made everybody different.

I couldn't be more happy where I am. Working for a guy who has a beard nomination among many other accolades.
I've just always thought I'd take some shitty corporate gig for a couple years at the very end to stack some last minute loot, then retire. If I just run restaurants for my guy til the end instead, I won't be crushed.

There's a good chance we have mutual friends.

They'll be gone in 10 years along with Longhorn. Not a sustainable business model for either
