What did the TE unit do to deserve this neglect?

I don't think Cheney knows it's legal throw to TE's.

the play where Fromm coughed up the ball...Nauta was wide open right in front of him...it may be not just neglect in the play calling, but stupidity on the part of our freshman qb

I heard some static about this too. Some behavior or attitude issue of some kind maybe?

I like CKS but at the end of the day...Nauta and IMAC led the team in receptions last year....he needs to be utilized...the other TE's cannot catch the ball...that may be why they aren't being targeted and I get that..but Nauta has hands

So, do we take snaps away from our Running backs, or do we quit throwing down field to our Wide Receivers?
There are only so many snaps to go around, and when your wide receivers are open they will get the ball more often than not.

Because the WR's were dropping the ball and/or not getting open. now they are catching and getting open.

Poor attitude and/or work ethic is sure way to get in the dawghouse with a coach who knows how to manage a team properly.

FWIW from another board:

quote:

1. Regarding our TE's: one is lazy and won't practice enough to learn the dang plays, another has developed some bad habits from watching his roomies have so much fun--Smart is withholding plays from them as a motivational ploy.

2. Dell, who I have never liked, is the star coach of this show--his kids show respect, play hard, practice hard and excel, and stay out of trouble.

3. Other coaches are carrying Tucker in my opinion. He is not a smart man, just a Smart man.

4. MECole could not catch an STD behind the Ramada Inn.

5. Recruiting is going really well. One day Fields will tire of his media crap and announce. He will be a Dawg minus any skullduggery.

Entitlement can be a problem with 5 star/elite type players. Translation: Nauta needs to get his shite together.

Maybe he is upset that the team seems to have embraced Fromm and his good buddy Eason looks to be unhappy every time the cameras find him.

They are amazing athletes but they are also kids and human, so who knows? He may have a broken give-a-damn meter because he feels his buddy is being slighted by fans and media...maybe even the coaches.

Do any of us see practice? I'd guess that our hands are not consistent in practice. Why would we think we are catching the ball in practice if we are rarely throwing in games and when we do throw, the ball gets dropped.

We get wrapped up in being fans but you're right. These are a bunch of kid and this has to be a shitty situation for Eason.

Huh?

This makes no sense whatsoever. And I don't mean whatever concept you're shooting for. I mean as in not legible.

FWIW Eason looked just fine on the sideline last night. Was laughing and joking with Fromm most of the game, even stopped and talked with Justin Fields.

We all know what Nauta can do. Woerner is a pretty amazing athlete, too but apparently has been a little slow on the uptake as far as assignments and routes. But Blazevich also showed he could make big plays in the past. So at minimum, Nauta and Blazevich could be useful in mismatches over the middle. Woerner, too...when the light bulb comes on.

Improved wide receiver play is likely the reason for some of the lack of use of TEs. Still, we could probably use a few less gimmicks with Hardman and use these big TE's.

I have heard that Eason showed little improvement from last year in summer practice and Smart thinks Fromm is our best QB. Word is the Eason injury isn't as bad as what is said and Eason is pouting.
