I've read the updates concerning the protests and counter-protests that started late last week. I've seen the coverage of the manhunt for one of the anti whitey protesters, and his father's plea to turn himself in. What is really going on down there?

Chaos. If you ain't here, stay away. If you are here, gtfo.

Jingism at its worst. 1st Amendment would be repealed if left up to this population.

All this set off by an attention whore who wanted to be relevant again.

I hear the KKK will be rolling in Friday. That's sweet, because I've been telling folk that the only difference between what they are saying and what a Klansman says, is the Klansman omits the disclaimer "I ain't racist, but..."

I've had people imply that I am going to be dealt with. I have openly declared that I am welcoming all challenges. The title is up for grabs. Heavy is the crown. Smoke 'em if ya got 'em...

had a bunch of idiots on my favebook bitching about the flag trampling..."if you dont like America leave..blah, blah, blah"

while its true those guys stomping the flag are probably idiots, it is still their right to do that.

Absolutely, and you can support the right without supporting the act. fricking rednecks can't wrap their brain cell around that concept.

Someone's going to get hurt down here, people.

white veteran female makes a scene by stealing a flag and has the encounter recorded. said video spreas across social media.

south georgia rednecks get pissed.

HRD prolly has a better feel of the pulse and can fill in the details if he wishes but thats pretty much the gist.

Wasn't the chick that grabbed the flag off the ground they were stomping on and started this hoopla an ex-porn star too?

Here's my take on US flag desecration....

Yes, technically our freedoms also give us the right to desecrate the U.S. Flag if we choose, but you having the right to do that isn't going to stop me from thinking you're a fricking douchbag prick who deserves an arse beating for doing it.

This world has gone totally batshit overboard with political correctness and being "offended" at damn near every thing they don't agree with. But this isn't remotely close to a situation of political correctness or a cause worthy of expressing rights and freedoms so profoundly to make the point.

These Liberal frickwits that were stomping on this flag were doing so specifically because they directly associate the flag with "conservative oppressive racist whitey". It had NOTHING to do with rights or freedoms and everything to do with their own racism and bigotry taking some hate-ridden blame-game bullshite out on a symbol they are beyond ignorant about.

Just another example confirming Rome is burning.

This.

What's sad is how much people get up in arms about something like burning the flag, but generally have milk toast reactions to the desecration of the essential American ideals that get shat on daily by government representatives. Carry on. Business as usual.

I take it this is what your FB post was about yesterday? I read that and just laughed a little as I thought about anyone taking you up on it.

I too believe it is their right. However, there is one thing everyone commenting either doesn't know or has forgotten. The flag is protected under federal law from desecration. 18 US Code Section 700 describes the act of what the protestors were doing as a crime "technically". I support the constitutionally protected (an oath I took) right to free speech. While it pains me personally to see the flag desecrated like that perhaps the section covering the flag is unconstitutional-- that's for our legislators to revisit. However, the law is on the books and it does spell out (and was updated in the '80s) that desecration is a crime, I believe a misdemeanor and punishment is spelled out as well, but no one is enforcing it and hasn't for a very long time.

Reference from Cornell Law. Was going to reference US Senate website but it is a PDF.

Can't say I know all the ins and outs of this story, but it sounds like the classic pissing contest between who can be the most outraged.

Gotta love the self described "conservatives" who desperately want a nanny state government to enforce things like flag burning bans.

I say that with the full assumption that the people doing the stomping/burning are probably dumbasses themselves.

Against my better judgement, I'll comment on this. I tend to stay away from political and religious talks. I won't change your mind, you won't change mine. Let's save each others breath.

From a "South Georgia Redneck" (as mentioned above)

That being said, I respect an individual(s) right to protest or have their own opinion. That is one of the reasons this country is (can) be great. You are allowed to have Free Speech.

However, at the point in which you decide that you are threatening violence and have the tools to do so (guns on campus) I believe your rights should become suppressed. Because when you do that, you are not trying to voice your opinion or exercise free speech. You are attempting to control the situation with force.

I think there are better ways to get their ideas across as opposed to trampling on the symbol of our Country.

Reminds me of the story this past week of the individuals blocking other individuals from going to class because they felt their were 'privileged'.

The climate of our country is in an awful place right now unfortunately but that is entirely different topic that I won't get into.
