That's not exactly high praise.

Just read that Frank Martin will be given options to stay at sc on Monday, none of them as a coach. The guy with like 11 straight wins on us and actually has taken a few teams to respectable places some years is on the way out. And we are talking about our patience lol

He's been at sc 9 years and made the tourney once. His only postseason win was first round of the nit.

If crean has that same resume after 9 years is agree he should be fired too

Yeah major brain fart on my part.

Still..3 bad to average years to start. An nit season. A great season. Then 4 average to bad seasons.

I don't think we should look at that and be like "well they're firing him so we need to fire crean!"

I give Crean credit he brought some energy back to the program. We went to a game in 2020 and I was impressed with how he is getting fans and students involved. The big thing going against him as people mention are some of the lopsided losses and defensive meltdowns. The other thing is he was not hired by Brooks. Brooks may wants to move the program in a different direction. I like Crean but I think next year is a pivotal year for him at Georgia.

It should be tournament or bust for him.

Yeah, Camara now leaving isn't good at all. I was really optimistic about Crean at first, but he has been a failure. All the talent he got to come in left just like that. We are worse off now than we were with Fox.

Which is ironic because people here said, before he was fired, it couldn't possibly get any worse than with Fox

I doubt anyone said that. Unless they were stuck in a coma from harricks last year until Fox' first year.

Probably a mix of the fact that he can transfer to a better team without penalty and the fact that every player seems to hate Tom Crean.

He definitely hasn't been a failure as evidenced by the black and white facts in the OP, but somethign is going on and I don't know what it is. I've said it abotu football and basketball and it rings true now more than ever that the transfer portal is killing college athletics. In the past Camara is a guy that would stay 3 maybe 4 years then leave btu now with as much as he's progressed he can say "hmmm...I'm pretty friggin good, I can transfer to another big school wiht no penalty and not sit out so why not?" Schools like kentucky can absorb that blow but we can't. Hell florida is having the same problem, pretty much half their team is leaving so it's not just a crean problem. I'm a crean defender but if players hate him I suppose it doesn't make much sense to keep him around much longer. I'm curious if this is a situation fo players not liking crean and bailing ASAP or just looking for more opportunity due to the portal.

I can 1000% ASSURE you that if the portal existed as it does now when Fox was here we'd barely be able to field a team most years. Anyone worth a damn would've left just like they're doing now.

Yeah it seems like the only way forward with the way the portal works now is to just drop bags for recruits to bring in a top class. That’s the only way to compete it seems.

is there evidence to support this? Seems like he had great relationships with his players at Indiana. He appears to be a decent dude but can't coach for shite.

Did you watch any games this year? I saw Fagan and KD give him a lot of dirty looks.

in what way would you call his performance to date anything but a failure?

He has made zero postseason tournaments, his recruiting has sucked since his first year, he is 14-40 in the SEC, and now he has a depleted roster.

He has slightly improved our record every year, but as others have mentioned already, his best year is still well below the average Fox season. This was not some rebuild job that he took over. Fox had a perennial NIT program baseline, and Crean was supposed to improve on that, and he hasn't even come close. in fact, if anything, the program has slipped backwards. That is the definition of a failure.

He had the pieces to turn that around this next year, but for whatever reason, he's now lost the locker room it appears.
