Well they have two national titles in the last decade, and we uh, well we don't.

nobody is comparing our recnet history to theirs. Simply saying that prior to 1990 they had very little basketball history, worse than ours probably. They got a good coach, then a great coach, and now they're big time.
There's absolutely nothing stopping UGA from doing the same thing.

Exactly. We just need to hire the right coach.

And to upgrade our facilities

upgrade to what? Still don't see how this is necessary if you don't have the coach to go with it.
We could play in a palatial oasis and that wouldn't change the fact that Fox has one main inbound play involving throwing it into our own corner while being full court pressed. We could have a 20K seat arena and it wouldn't change the fact that the Kesslers and Edwards of the world were still seeing court time when they have no business playing high major ball. We could have the newest and fanciest arena in america and it wouldn't change the fact that Fox is uber quick to yank talented and promising freshmen for missing a shot or 2 while giving a senior an unlimited leash despite being a poor passer and turnover prone.
The facility angle is just icing on top if you've got a coach that is buildilng the program. If you dont' have the coach you have nothing. We absolutely have not lost basketball games the last few years because of stegeman coliseum.

This is what I meant when I put that. Once we get Crean or whoever we are going to get, the administration needs to get behind him like they did for Kirby. I understand that we are primarily a football school, but there's no reason we cant try to become a winning program in every sport.

I get that but I mean there's not really much more you can do to steg. With Sanford there were major internal changes needed which are being done now..what would you even do to steg short of razing it and building a new one? BEcause that's not happening.

well yeah that's a gimme but I mean that's an easy one and not really a massive wholesale change.

Why would the “right coach” come here, when there are much better and more committed programs out there for an established coach.
There is a reason the best two coaches we have had either left for a better deal or was 60 years old and running from the slime he left at his last two spots.
We aren’t gonna get an established ahead coach unless he has baggage. It’s the only reason we would get him.
And if we get a younger version of Herrick, he will be gone after 4 years... we need to have enough to keep them here. I just don’t see it. Hope I’m wrong.

We offered 3+MM to Matta. That will land a lot of coaches

If we get a hot, established coach without baggage, I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong.

I would even take an ugly, established coach without baggage.

I thought this inclusion in a recent article linking UGA and Crean from CBS was interesting:
I'm not remotely surprised that they would decline, but it was interesting to me that we'd have even reached out. Seems like we definitely are aiming to swing for the fences on this hire... may not work out, but I'd rather see this than settling...

Sources told CBS Sports that a search firm working on behalf of the school initially inquired about Xavier's Chris Mack and Texas' Shaka Smart, both of whom respectfully declined.
