First of all, I was just giving stats.

Without any context. He took over a program in as bad of shape as possible and turned it around.

He is very strong X's & O's and coaches some fun offense.

He emphasizes pressure defense and a very up tempo offense. Pretty much the exact opposite of what we had with Fox. Should be fun to watch guys like Hightower, Hammonds, Claxton, Crump, Hagans (hopefully), etc. running the court instead of trying to play a half court game.

$3.2 million? Wasnt that about what Kirby was making? Seems like a lot for a round ball coach. Hope he delivers.

Kirby is set to make $3.75M base salary. I think that number tops $5M annually before the start of the season. Glad to see UGA spending money on coaches and facilities.

Agreed. If Jordan Harris gets reinstated I think he could really come on strong too. Watching some clips on his offense I think the group you mentioned along with Harris and Ogbeide could really shine.

Jordan Harris is the key to making the whole back court work. We said it last year and it still holds true, if he develops like he should the team can be pretty good next year.

To me the first thing that needs to be done is that turtle needs to be permanently moved to the 2 -Guard position. He is too slow to be a true floor general and his lack of explosiveness and speed greatly hurt s our team because it causes him to not attack the rim. Also, Tyree Crump needs consistency and to stay at the PG position. He could rotate very well with Teshaun Hightower and be an excellent 6th man as a shooter off the bench.

If we can get Hagans back, I would bet Turtle and/or Tyree crump will most most of their minutes.

What was the narrative that the talking heads were spewing last week?

"There is no way Georgia should fire Fox. He does it the right way, and is a great coach. If they do fire him, there will be a line of power 5 teams lining up to hire him. Blah blah blah."

I'm pumped about this hire.. hopefully he can pull Hagans back in who would probably thrive in the Crean style of offense. Hopefully the Steg is rocking next season in support.

I'll be there to watch some basketball for the first time in 7 or 8 years. And I was running cameras and the scoreboard back then.

Does Crean fit this description for you?

I don’t know... he was fired from a better program. Could have been issues out of his control to an extent. I’m glad we at least spent some $$ on a big name. Hopefully he can get and keep some momentum going the program has been needing.

I think he might be a better fit here, Indiana is a tough job to maintain. He had injuries to a few all conference players his last year that completely derailed that season. Was at 14-6 with several top ten wins before those season ending injuries halted it.

Video of Crean taking pictures with a family right after he got off the plane in Athens. Definitely more engaging than what we've had before. Twitter Vid

Also it seems like Jonas will be retained, he agreed to stay under Matta so it doesn't sound like he's ready to go out on his own just yet.

Just from my initial (probably too early) observations, it seems like Crean views this as a marketing job as much as a coaching job, which makes some sense.

which is so sorely desperately needed. There's videos on twitter of Crean and his family getting off the plane in athens and just walking up to 2 dudes sitting on a bench and was like "hey, you guys GA fans? How bout a picture?" I also don't think they were even fans lol.

Fox just never struck me as very engaging or charismatic. There was the one time he painted up in the football student section (I imagine he got the idea from Pearl doing something similar at UT) which was a cool move, but aside form that you never really saw him pump up the program. With football kirby is non stop promoting. I saw that Crean brought the midnight madness thing to Marquetee which I would love to do here. Just SOMETHING to generate a buzz around campus. I remember when Felton was here, before the season he woudl go aroudn to every fraternity on campus and speak just to drum up interest. I have no clue if Fox did the same (he could have for all i Know) but it just seems like doing even little things like that to get people to notice is badly needed.
