I think Kirby and BoBo tend to lean towards the game manager/pocket passer type of qb and maybe that’s what they feel like fits their system best. But I also think Saban realized it and he started recruiting more athletic players at that position towards the end of his career.

when dual threat QBs starting beating saban's arse yearly he saw the writing on the wall and made the change. He completley overhauled his offense from the old school "run and defense" to a wide open air attack. The only difference is he 100% committed to it while we've only dipped a toe in the water. But the idea that we haven't tried to go away from game managers and lean on dual threats simply isn't true. We HAVE tried, we just haven't 100000% committted ot it like saban did.

justin fields
dwan mathis
jamie newman
BVG (kinda? He's no fields but was known to have wheels)
gunner (listed as a DT by some services)

these are just guys that actually signed ot come here. It doesn't even mention the guys we highly recruited that didn't come here like Raiola for instance. We have absolutely tried to get dual threat guys to be the man, just unforutnatley for us none of them (not counting GS in here) have panned out for one reason or another.

But I htink our recxruiting clearly reflects that we ARE trying to get more mobile QBs in teh fold.

How would you define this? Bringing in a kid and putting him in as starter above the other QBs on the roster regardless of his readiness to be QB1?

Your list with exception of Gunner is a bunch of guys that failed to live up to their potential. Fields has made a lot of money off of what he “could” be vs what he is.

Truth is, NFL QB is the hardest position in all of sport to do at a high level. There is no where to hide at that level as NFL teams can stop a running attack, smother Wrs, and confuse a retarded QB.

For years 1 St round QBs came from schools with no real NC hope. Taking care of the ball is the best hope of shortening games and giving your defense long fields to work with. Let a QB develop young is at the risk of your defense. Telling them they will sit for 2 seasons to learn often send them to lesser or home state schools.

Rayola would have been another Fields situation.

I'm simply looking at who is actually suiting up on the field. Since coker bama's main starting QBs have been: hurts, tua, bryce, mac, milroe It's obvious they went all in on that particular type of QB, whereas we've recruited them to have in our arsenal but we haven't entirely changed our whole offensive philosophy to make that type of player mandatory.

I'm not suggesting we should start inferior guys simply because they're mobile. My entire point was just to refute that we haven't made ANY effort to get those kinda guys, because we definitely have made the effort.

If you look back at most if not all of the National Championship teams in the past 2 decades they usually have a lot of players drafted the following April. You can also get a good idea of how good a team will be this coming up year by how many players they have projected to go in the first and second round.

Kirby doesn’t hold his QBs to an elite standard*

A disappointed UGA fan said this.

This makes sense now. You don’t know what you are talking about.

After perusing his post history during the most successful 4 year run of UGA football history, it makes even more sense.

I haven't kept up with this thread but saw Kirby hasn't officially named the starter which will all know if Gunner. What are the reports on Puglisi? Is he balling out at practice or not? If Gunner plays well I don't see Puglisi sticking around since Gunner would have at least another year after this.

Take it with a grain of salt but Buck Belue stated on 680 the other day that Gunner has full control of the offense during the practices he attended. He also stated that Bobo wouldn’t be returning this year…

I don’t think there has ever been a true QB competition during spring or fall practice, Gunner has been the guy since the Texas game IMO

Yes he did, it was back early spring this year. Said Bobo would be stepping down due to health reasons.

I’m pretty sure that comment got him moved to the 6-8pm time slot.
