Open to any of the experts explaining, and not excusing, why they weren't more involved today.
My 2 cents is pretty crazy to think we have all these dudes and when our QB is struggling we can't dial up an easy bootleg or something to hit one of these guys. I know Gunner missed a few down field...one to Reddell but dang man.
Unfortunately when they have been as quiet as they have been over the past few weeks, you can't help to think that the portal is calling their name. Would hate to lose elyiss especially. He is a great blocker but you got to feed the man.
Call me a Bobo hater but there has to be a creative way to get these guys at least 5 or so catches a game. Or a reverse or two to reddell. Idk. Just surprised and disappointed

Who knows. In the first half we didn’t have to do any more than we were doing. Maybe they were needed to run block and pass pro more than catch passes.

Gunner looked totally out of sync with his receivers.
And at one point Gunner took off on a designed QB run with a 31-6 lead in hand.
We should NEVER be running our QB with that kind of lead.
The best play of the second half was the Phillips run. He simply outran the Safety that actually had a good angle to catch him.

We literally ran that boot flood play and it was covered.
I watched the game at a bar, so I dont know who was open and what reads Gunner may have missed.
But the M.O. is that he reads the defense and takes what they give. So if they aren't getting a bunch of throws, the early presumption is that the defense is focusing on them. That also may explain all of the deep shots.

Good OCs can get whoever they want involved.
Will be interesting to see the breakdown by the YouTube guys on if passes were turned down or what, but you have a freak in Elyiss williams and a super athletic guy in Reddell. Figure it out
And if it's a QB issue that's on Bobo too. This dude was hand picked by Bobo since high school and has been in the system for 5 years.

I wouldn't take too much away from that second half or any second half when Georgia has a big lead, for that matter. That's just how Kirby rolls when we have a lead and Kirby doesn't think the other team can move the ball consistently.
Gunner made zero tight window throws after he threw the interception (which was tipped) and no throws that could be jumped or deflected by an underneath defender. Everything was either quick game or an over an shoulder throw down the field outside of the hashmarks. Even when Puglisi came in, it was the same marching orders. Those are low percentage throws. Gunner could've thrown them better, but they were low risk, low percentage throws.
Gunner was cooking in the first half. We only had 5 possessions in the first half. Two were long touchdown drives and one was a short touchdown drive against one of the best defenses in the country. Then Gunner threw the pick to start the second half, and Kirby and Bobo put him in punishment.
We will either be ranked 1st or 2nd in the nation in scoring after this weekend. We definitely aren't the 2007 Patriots or any shite like that, but we're pretty damn good.

We had 6 throws to the tight ends and an end around.
I wouldn't say that they were ignored. Maybe 4 of those attempts were successful plays. 1 was an INT.

We scored 34 points without our starting running back out with injury against what was a top 5 defense in the country and sat our starting QB with just under 9 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.
It is Bobo's fault. At least you recognize it.

With the exception of Carson Beck, every UGA QB relies on the sidelines. Fromm. Bennett. Gunner. OU is known for throwing bodies into the line of scrimmage. Making them run laterally isn't a bad strategy. I will be interested to see if we are missing open receivers. Or to see if the screen game was defended (causing us to shoot downfield more with lower percentage throws).

Just felt in that lull of a third quarter it was so obvois Gunner was out of rhythm. I assumed coming into the year that when we needed a get right play or something to get a little momentum on it would involve one of our TEs. Instead we just went screen, PA sideline shot.
Fromm and Stetson at least were killer on that back shoulder throw. There was obviously some miscommunication between Gunner and the WR a few times
The offense did fine, executed well early and then took advantage of super short fields for the most part. Call it bitching or whatever but when I look ahead to harder games the offensive lull and the fact that Gunner was 3-13 on passes that went 10+ yards are areas that stand out.
I said in the game thread but the absolute bed wetting that mateer did makes it hard to judge the defense too. Kirby said it was a lucky performance by the defense... paraphrasing...from the forced vs unforced turnover lens. Run defense looks elite but we let Mateer get in and yadda yadda yadda...point being were not going to have the luxury of getting gifted turnovers all game against the elite teams, so our offense going MIA for a whole quarter can't happen.
That said, that's probably the best defense we gave all year? Maybe? Idk

I hear you on the lead, but when they score to make it 28-6...getting a first down and really a response to their points would have been ideal for Kirby I assume.
I used to buy the secret playbook and I think it was a legit thing in the Monken years but after watching the two playoff games under Bobo, I think he shows 90% of his plays by week 6 and may only install a handful of new plays per week for the opponent. Could be a dumb take, idk
We are in a good spot...just pondering and looking ahead as our opponents will only get better.

Elyiss took some convincing to stay this year I believe. He gone I would bet. Reddell seems loyal...Barbour too. Idk. Just thought one of these guys would be the safety blanket for gunner and when it looked like we needed it, they were not involved

I agree with you about the lack of usage of the TE's. And, for the life of me, I can't come up with a decent reason why Bobo/Kirby use them more. It's frustrating...

Especially when our starting RB was out. Take out all the OU turnovers and that game might have been a nailbiter. Defense saved the day.

Bowens is no step down, not in any way. I actually prefer his chubb style running ability.
