They were DGDs but none of them could jump over a pile like Herschel.

Swift’s jump against Tech last year was pretty legit as well.
Looked like an Olympic high jumper.

Our TEs should be seeing more attention on the goal line. We have 3 huge TEs throw the ball up and let them go get it.

Ha! I forgot about that!

I've always liked the idea of FBs being used. Especially in plays like that one. But I cant recall if Herschel ever needed one with plays like that. Anyone know?

Overthrew Nauta on Saturday.
We've done a lot of things, and some of them are consistently coming up short (pun intended. How many catches does Hardman have flying out of the side of the end zone because he is too short to drag a back foot?)

I saw that he overthrew him but that doesn’t mean you give up on the idea. Nauta isn’t the only TE we have either. On the note, where is Landers?

I'm just throwing this out there to learn
Game is changing and going away from traditional offenses. Spread offenses don't run a traditional fullback. However you can run sets with an H-back.The H is essentially morphed into the Spread fullback. You can use TE personnel at the H if needed.
The days of 3 yards and cloud of dust are over. The game is now basketball on grass.
Watch 81(H-back) mash the end that squeezing down.
Ducks running 2 H backs. 85 is essentially a fullback leading blocking ISO.
So while the Spread offenses are different the concepts are still the same.......

The point is that we have overthrown holloman, hardman, godwin, and nauta. The personnel doesn't matter so long as the idea that the corner of the endzone has been tough to find this season.
We have consistently thrown there and consistently missed.
There have been a few underthrows as well (should have been a pass interference last week, etc).
We haven't tried a bunch of hard slants. But a lot of that is riskier and depends on what the defense gives us.

Good gif.
That is just football (adjusting the blocking scheme to create leverage on defenders to find more success).
There are plenty of UGA highlight reels the past several recent seasons with a lead blocker creating opportunities for the tailback.
Not letting the defense anticipate the blocking scheme is huge (which is why your example worked so well).

I added a second one to that post as well and it's a goal line set used by Oregon with two H's. Watch 85 at the H back on the right hand side. He is essentially a "fullback" lead blocking ISO through A Gap.
I agree though what we are doing in short yardage goal line situations isn't cutting the mustard this year.

Not so much a red zone play, but I hate the fact that toss sweeps are no longer employed anywhere. Last year we ran a few with success but this year our signature running play is nowhere to be found. Is the change due to using bigger and less agile guards?
