Why can't we take it year by year? If the team shows improvement from game to game, year to year; I'll be not as pissed off.

we lose a few OL starters, have a true freshman QB coming from lily white Washington to play in teh SEC, Chubb may not be fully healthy to start, lose Malcolm at WR, and lose some key players on defense too. All while breaking in an entirely new coaching staff and trading out one of our gimme games for a team currently ranked 10th.
Now, I don't think we go 6-6. I'm just playing devils advocate here. People thinking we'll go better than 9-3 simply because that's what we did hte last 2 years aren't being rational.

My expectations aren't going by record because the record isn't why I wanted Richt fired. On the surface, Richt's record was consistently pretty good.
My expectation is that the team shows up ready to play consistently and isn't shitting its pants in at least 1-2 games per year. No more bullshite like the Bauta experiment that set him and the other players up to fail would be nice too.
Another expectation is in regards to roster management. Start building up the LOS (on both sides) and good things will come.
That being said, I expect several losses next year. Breaking in a true freshman QB is never pretty. This class looks to be great but depending on too many freshmen is never good. And we don't know what the offseason attrition will be yet (particularly transfers).

I use the last 10 years performance in competing for our own conference championship. That's a fair benchmark. Richt won 0 and competed for 1 (we showed up against LSU - didn't compete). If we do better than that it's an improvement.
Playing to overtime 4 out of 5 years would mean we're in the hunt - and that would be a drastic improvement.
Why are you trying to make this so hard? 9 games aren't shite when you're watching from home when they play in Atlanta.
