My understanding is Athens is hurting for some in-town living options for non college kids (young professionals, active retirees, etc)

in town meaning on campus? I would imagine there are plenty of housing options for those people in the city of athens within 3 miles of campus. Just seems odd to put it in that particular spot for that reason.

Athens has also added an axe throwing bar chain and a sake bomb chain thing on Clayton. Also they’ve cut down most of the trees on Clayton.

That legit pisses me off.

In town as in downtown and walkable to campus. Five Points houses are way too expensive for those groups and virtually everything else walkable is cheaply built and overpriced for college students.

We've parked in the Williams Street lot for years and we used head in and out of the Blind Pig on gamedays. Was a major bummer when they closed that location. Talking the people there, they said they made a killing on gamedays but struggled the rest of the year.

This doesn't make any sense. They moved downtown and opened a location on the west side. Lack of sales doesn't seem like a good reason to move to a more expensive location and open a new store.

They get a ton more exposure and foot traffic downtown which justifies the hike in rent. Plus they can fit more people in there (though now the whole NSD party they used to do has kind of lost its luster with the early signing period dividing things across two months)

That's usually the number one concern for businesses that are having to shutter due to lack of sales.

Again. It makes no sense to close your flagship store and open two locations when you don't have enough business to support one location.

Barstools... as usual you know nothing about the dynamics of what you are speaking to.

I will lay out some quick-fire facts for you.

QUICKFIRE- they still get all the same business on game days they did before but have even more capacity.

QUICKFIRE- they have three locations... on on East Side too. It's always packed.

QUICKFIRE- The "new" downtown location (they moved from w-street) is directly across the street from courthouse and I can personally testify they have busy lunches from that every day.... cops, lawyers, administrators, jury pools, families of people on trial for shite, etc.

So for all those years they stayed at rivermill instead of moving downtown just because they didn't want more sales? No they grew the business to the point they could move downtown and open 2 more locations. You don't make those decisions when you are fighting to stay afloat.

As usual, you cannot make a point without making personal attacks. Try coming up with a better arguement than a personal attack.

And O'Malleys was a lot of fun once upon a time when it was one of the hot spots. It was nice to be able to stagger home to Rivermill.

I lived in Myers Hall in 1990-91, so yeah, it was kinda nice to stagger home from O'Malleys. I was bummed to see it had gone away. hard to believe Dial America bought it; that company had a shite reputation back in my student days.

Most fun we ever had at O'Malley's was Beer Bust night. All drinks free until someone had to pee. Needless to say, the offensive and defensive linemen guarded the bathrooms those nights...

You and I were there at the same time.

O’Malley’s was a pure meat market full of cheesy girls with big hair. It was beautiful.

Gylands, Peppinos, TK’s, Sky’s, etc. Those were good times. I lost a lot of brain cells in those places.

Gylands, Sky's, Peppinos, were all there in my time. Tail end of the Sugar bowl and Hoyt Street Station as well.

Hell I may be the guy in the red and black flannel.
