So ironic that an IT guy doesn’t look at statistics lol. All one needs to do is look at the growth curves to see the truth. And why are you so aggressive towards people discussing it with you?

This shite has nothing on the mortality rate of previous coronaviruses. It will infect more, but death rate will be closer to the seasonal flu.

It’s amazing how out of touch you are with reality.

Completely different demographics with a much older population.

Where was all this panic in '09 when we had 60 million cases of swine flu?

Yep,I think this is pretty contagious and nope I'm not worried about getting it.

There was an elderly couple (over 80) from Georgia on the news yesterday who tested positive, barely had any symptoms, were quarantined and tested negative 10 days later. Not even close to being severely sick or dying.

What is the average age of the deaths in Italy?

"The virus has killed 79 people in Italy, overwhelmingly aged between 63 and 95 with underlying serious illnesses."

LINK

23% of the Italian population is over 65.

There are plenty of older people in our nation as well. We aren’t as young as you are led to believe.

What?I'm not "led"to believe anything.US population over 65 is 16%.Italy is around 23%

It's a big difference.

And now it’s up to 366, 133 died in one day.

They only had a few cases 2 weeks ago.

It’s not a big enough difference to turn a major problem into a minor one

Do you think shutting down schools and businesses and government offices and sporting events and festivals and parades will prevent this virus from spreading in the United States? And if so, how long should they all be shut down for?

Long enough to realize they can totally offshore you. Is that really what you want?

When you get the daily update it illicits a response of “oh shite...it’s coming”. I think a lot of that is the social media click bate news cycle and how panic sells. We’ve had 500 cases and 32 deaths in the US out of 300 million people!

But even in China..which was ground zero...which has a population of 1 Billion people....their death rate per that population is tiny. It’s not good...but still tiny.

I think a lot of people will catch this...and some will die...worse than the flu but not much worse. The overhype will make this seem a lot worse than it is which will lead to a social pandemic much more damaging than the virus itself.

Exactly. It’s a new thing. TAking something like this and manufacturing a frenzy. To what end?

If you believe it’s a actually an organized effort. I don’t. I think it’s a by product of our media. 30 years ago this would’ve just been a really bad flu season. Now it’s a hysteria.

This is a really good video on why people are concerned about how this could escalate really quickly.

It seems really small now, but it could become a national crisis in a month or two if we can't slow the growth.

This looks more serious by the day. This has potential to be far far worse than a bad flu season. News can’t create that situation.
