Interesting story. Guy's obviously very intelligent and very lonely. Autistic and no friends so he starts buying them. He got mad when he detective told him his friends didn't care about him and were just there for the money. I got a chuckle when he told the detective showing off $1 million didn't get him anywhere with the ladie. I almost feel bad for him. Now he has no money and no friends.

That's nuts, especially when his lawyer makes a solid point - the federal government wasn't harmed.

If the BTC had been there when they shut down Silk Road, they would've sold it for $350/BTC.

Have they ever?

The Founders held that the concept of an income tax was so onerous that it took 150 years and a Constitutional amendment just to legalize the practice.

He stole the money from crooks. The feds would have taken the money from the people stole from if they had prosecuted them. He went to jail because he was muscling in on their territory. There's no difference between the thugs he stole from and the government thugs who stole from him.

I swear I'm not being facetious here, but who exactly should they have given the money "back" to?

He is in a federal minimum security prison located on Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Al. He has access to tennis and squash courts, and the bases golf course. No locks on the doors. He just can't go off base.

Crazy story.

I mean, dude had 100's of millions in stolen bitcoin. Just crazy that he called the police to report a few hundred thousand stolen...Also, he then kept all that in his house that someone broke into...that woulda been a great time to transfer all your bitcoin to new accounts and douse the old electronics, move, cause they might have come back.

All in all, 1 year in prison is cake walk considering the life he got to lead for 10 years

Athen is an awesome town. With $3 billion Zhong could've moved anywhere in the world but chose not to.

Did any of you Athens area people ever run into Zhong? Maybe you were in a bar when he bought the house a drink.
