“One more day, and it could have burst,” Terence Mathis, D’Wan’s father, said Monday. “I can’t tell you how thankful I am my son is at the University of Georgia and with that medical and training staff.

“We were 745 miles away when all this happened last week, and Coach (Kirby) Smart made sure my son was taken care of the same way he would treat his own children.”

The University of Georgia medical staff rushed Mathis to the emergency room last Thursday after the early enrollee from Romulus, Mich., came to them with severe sinus pain.

“People need to understand this is what makes Georgia a great institution, it’s not just on the football field,” Terence Mathis said. “It’s the people. They’ve had every specialist on hand. My family has been taken care of from the jump.”

So you think CMR would have handled it differently? He had his flaws but being father figure to young men wasn't one of them.

Why is there a response about CMR?

Can he be thankful for Kirby without thinking about Wally Butts or Vince Dooley?

Cobb and Spunky both made valid points.
Spunkys point would only be invalid if our last coach was someone like Brian Kelly.

Cobb’s point is just giving a wave of acknowledgement to how Kirby covers the whole gamut of items needed to help these young men develop.

I see no problem with either comment.

I can honestly say that CMR never came to mind. I just thought Terrance’s statement about Kirby was worth sharing.

I think the father was saying he’s not sure The Ohio State would have treated his son the same way. Especially, if Urban was still coaching.

It's not binary, you can be thankful we have Kirby and it not be about a past coach. It's not 1 or 0 only.

Butts probably would have called him a pussy, then told him to rub some dirt on it and get back in there.

It was a different world back then.

The medical staff deserves more credit on this one than the head football coach. As the father clearly gives to them in your quote..

It's not like Kirby came in and replaced Richts medical guys. That’s not how it works.

Dr. Courson has been at UGA since the mid nineties. When Kirby was a player.

You read all of this into that post? Some of you are CMRanoid.

Or maybe it’s just that the entire situation has nothing to do with a meathead football coach with a whistle around his neck. Whether Kirby or Richt or whoever.

It’s dumb and mega cringe-awkward to fawn over the head football coach in this situation like you did. Instead of properly crediting the professional medical staff that are the ones who saved this kids life potentially. Retard.

Just going by what the dad said. Who’s a hell of a lot closer to the situation than you, dickbreath.

Let's review a third time for fun...

Kid approaches UGA medical staff with severe headache. These professionals properly assess the seriousness of the situation and get him to specialists to look into it further. Then within mere hours, kid is on an operating table where a surgeon with Trump-sized gonads is going to attempt to carve a gigantic zit off of the dude's freaking brain. HIS BRAIN!!! ONe wrong twitch by the surgeons hand, and dude can be paralyzed, brain damaged, or dead. But, no wrong moves are made, he's stiched back up, and might even play football this year.

YAY KIRBY!! YOU'RE MY HERO!!!! SWOON SWOON SWOOON-AROO!!!!!!!!!!

I'm no doctor but I think you may have a cyst, or something else fvcked up, on your brain. I just passed along the props that the dad gave to Kirby and staff and you went all ape shite. Chill, dude. This has nothing to do with your favorite city, Atlanta, or anything. No need to blow a gasket.

A group of highly skilled elite health professionals collaborated to save a man’s life in a very delicate situation. But you swooned up on Kirbs as if he took the whistle off his jock neck, used it for a makeshift scalpel, and carved the zit off the side of the kid’s brain himself....

Ha ha.

Swoon, swoon, swoon...
Swoon, Swoon a-roo!

In both words and posts, Jefferson Dawg prefers quantity over quality.

Kirby swept him up and took him to Emory in ATLANTA and, when the doctors all saw him and recognized him as the Great Kirbinsky, they bowed and handed over all of their brain surgery instruments, and Kirby himself removed the cyst. He performed so skillfully that D’Wan was immediately released and they celebrated at the Varsity, in ATLANTA, where the chili cheese slaw dogs and hamburgers are superior to anything served elsewhere, because Kirby and ATLANTA are the GOAT. Thank God for Kirby and ATLANTA!
