No one ever accused Richt of not recruiting.
Plenty have accused him of not recruiting to full potential, and struggling with OL and WR recruits. It's not a coincidence the 2 biggest weakness' on this team are directly correlated with that. Some call that reality, while you call that laughable excuses. You and your first round pick Pyke, speaking of a laughable idea. We can also add not having a quality experienced qb ready to play in 2015 or 2016.

Struggles with Oline and WR talent? Has 6 OL and 6 WR in the NFL including some All Pros.... not many coaches have more.

So, we can hang our hat on him being a great recruiter and a mentee of a legend that won a lot of NCs and was considered a top tier coordinator...
Where have I heard that one before????????????
So we can look forward to 15 years of modest success, then?

Right now if you told me Kirby Smart would win multiple SEC Championships and several SEC East Championships and averaged 9.7 wins a year, I would be relieved.
Anything else right now would be gravy.

Smart was ready for a head coaching job but he wasn't ready for this job. Georgia should never have hired a defensive coordinator who lacks had head coaching experience.

Due to your playing daze brain injuries, you forgot when we only had 6 OL in 2006, and then having to start multiple true freshman ol in 2007 and 2008. Having to grab Uva's backup qb, rhode islands LT, and uabs mlb are all signs of recruiting issues that you forgot about. Then again, you can't see talent at OL/WR or experience at qb/dl as current issues, so Why would anyone expect you to acknowledge old issues?

First of all, a lot of us are scared to death what is happening to guys our age and younger with the repeated concussions. If you want to try and belittle me or anyone who busted their arse for this team so you can win an argument on the internet, then you are a first rate count. Fortunately, I am clear of those symptoms for now and I got a scan last year that was clear, but you can't see it all. So, frick you on that point.
That aside, we aren't "having" to start grad transfers. They are in many cases a good bonus grab. Similar to a JUCO. One of our best Defensive players is one of those guys as well. Was that a bad move by Kirbs to take him?
I think Richt was not a perfect recruiter. It always seemed like we were missing one piece or the other. Yet, on this very website and all over the college football world, Richt was lampooned for wasting talent. The NFL was always the proof source. Now it's not in play. Oh well.... you see what you want to see... that's clear.

Just a question and if its too personal don't answer.
Who was your coach at GA?
Also, I've been told that Richt really didn't reach out to the old lettermen at GA but Smart is reaching out and making them feel welcome around the program once again. True or false?

Wow 6 whole OL after 15 years on the job. What's he had come through, maybe 70 or so OL during his tenure? Let's put that on a promotional poster.

Well of course you would be relieved. Winning the SEC these days means you are in. The cost of that is everyone around you is better.

I took it that he means currently. I'm not sure, though. That's the way I took it.
I just went to ESPN and I count 5 OL and 4 WR. I'm not sure how up to date it is. Still not too bad considering how short the average NFL career is, though.
OL
John Theus
Cordy Glenn
David Andrews
Clint Bolling
Ben Jones
WR
Chris Conley
AJ Green
Tavarres King
Malcolm Mitchell

Not sure I understand what you mean. I take it you are certain that he will be better, though, and do more?

The conference is more competitive

I haven't noticed a big change either way, but that could just be me. The guys I talk to are in the "what the frick?" Phase. There is also still some race stuff as far as QBs and HCs, but that was going on with Richt as well.

It got that way the last 12 years Richt was here, though, right? I went back 12 years because in 2002 we played for the SECC ranked at #5 against #3 LSU. So, unlike the populat narratvie, Richt didn't take advantage of a weak SEC earlier in his career. (I guess the first 3 years, or so.)

The entire landscape of CFB, how the SEC is viewed nationally, and the quality of the conference top to bottom is much different than when Richt won his sec championships. He was obviously capable of putting together good teams and competing in this "new sec" clearly if you look at 2012. He just never won it. If we finish that drive the narrative is so different on Richt.

You are correct, it is. but a lot of that is colored by Alabama winning the NC so much, don't you think?
I mean two teams in the top 5 in 2003 is pretty darn good.

You are right. 2012 was a weird year, wasn't it? Lost the first two games then ran the table. It was a fun year to watch. It's a shame he couldn't quite get over that hump. Saban has made it tough on a lot of coaches.
