I would definitely root for him to wreck shop in the B1G, as well.

Makes sense, since Damon Evans is at Maryland now.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Richt to take the Miami job and retire back at his ancestral home?

Miami fans I have read reacting to his firing seemed lukewarm to the idea at best.

Ill be a huge MD fan.

Not with the headaches surrounding that program.

Richt has spent his last 30+ years in Tallahassee, Florida and Athens, Georgia. I don't think he would enjoy dealing with Luther Campbell and the other "U" self-appointed assistant coaches on a daily basis.

I think Richt would do fine at MD or UVA. The U seems like a trap job at this point - they don't have the same level of support as some of these other programs.

I know Richt is originally from Nebraska and grew up a Husker fan. I wonder if they're pursuing him now that he's available.

I'd love to see him build up a team in the Big 10 able to compete with some of the traditional powerhouses there. Best of luck to him wherever he goes though.

I hope he doesn't land so quickly that he romances our recruits.

Doesn't he have a relationship with the staff AD there already?

That's the guy. Also, Maryland has the 3rd ranked QB-PP committed Dwayne Haskins Jr

So he would have something to work with.

I hope he gets what he wants but does anyone think, with his record against urban, he could build a team that could beat the shite school in ohio?

Not consistently, because it's still Maryland, but if he can tap into New Jersey and the Virginia Beach recruiting areas, there is talent to be had. Also, Under Armour's CEO seems hell bent on making Maryland the east coast version of Oregon. Richt would be a good get for them, but that is a damn tough division to compete in every year. I would absolutely pull for Maryland.

At least at Maryland, the expectations are fairly low. Maryland hasn't been any good since...well...right around when Richt came to UGA. They've never been able to sustain being a 10+ win program for more than about three years in any stretch...usually followed by a decade of 5-5 or worse seasons...

But Richt could potentially build them up to some extent.

Richt interviewing with Miami and UVA

quote:

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, recently fired Georgia coach Mark Richt and former coaches Greg Schiano and Butch Davis have all interviewed for the Miami Hurricanes' head coaching job, sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

quote:

Richt, who was fired Sunday after guiding Georgia to a 9-3 mark this season and a 145-51 record in his 15 seasons, will also interview for the vacancy at Virginia, sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

I'd much rather him go to UVA. Look at the teams in VA's division and then in Maryland's division. It's like HS ball compared to college, it's not even close.

I love richt but if he goes to maryland and has to face Michigan, Michigan St, and Ohio State every year it's gonna be ugly. It was fine playign the big boys here because we're a big boy too, but him playing those teams with maryland would be a bad time.

Added second quote...he's supposedly interviewing with UVA too. I didn't expect him to be so active so soon, especially after watching the presser. I was pretty sure he'd take some time off.
