Gotta throw Daniels out there, we can't win the ultimate prize unless we get the best talent out there with some experience.

And how do you know he is not the "Answer"?

My question as well. Daniels could be overrated but nonetheless, he was a former 5 star guy, he has the size and arm, and was known as a fairly cerebral QB. Yet he could also go out and have a bad start.

Strange situation in that both Daniels and Mathis hadn't played any football in a while.

But most would have assumed JT is more likely "the Answer" than Mathis.

Now if Bennett keeps playing and winning, then recruiting rankings are officially out the window.

So JT needed 53 weeks rehab because 52 weeks would not do. Then 2 days after the first game, he suddenly gets cleared to play. Very strange. I wonder if GA screwed up his paperwork to play last week.

There are objective tests he had to pass before being cleared. It's completely possible that he didn't get the reps necessary on one of those tests last week but was able to get them today.

Mathis wasn't good last week but he wasn't the most glaring problem in the first half. I don't think it was a situation where the felt they needed to pull the fire alarm.

He's ready now because he's ready now. It's probably just that simple.

Daniels ultimately gives us the best chance to win. I haven’t seen how he does with short to intermediate passes but he is extremely accurate with the downfield passing game. As been stated, I too wonder how long it will take him to get back to game speed and how he will react when hit again.

He had a second procedure in january.
Which isnt normal. So the rehab timeline isnt normal.

3 weeks ago, I thought he was going to be cleared. Then in the scrimmage, a few podcasts said he was noticeably favoring one knee. And then we didnt see first team reps again. So maybe the time line is 4 weeks from a setback (and not 53 weeks from surgery)

I'm excited to see the kid play, but if we're honest, this is just another spin on the "most popular player on a team is the backup QB" trope.

I'm not so sure JT wasn't cleared to play last week if I'm honest.

If he wasn't cleared, why would he travel AND dress on the sideline?

I'm done with assuming anything about this QB situating. I don't know who provides the best chance to win.

And don't give up on Mathis yet. Seriously. He's not as bad as you think.

As always, I trust our coaches know better than we do when it comes to personnel. They are at each practice, are in the film room, and know how each player executes each snap behind the scenes.

There are all kinds of benefits to being on a travel roster. Sounds like we took 3 healthy QBs plus JT. Maybe they were hoping he would clear from the time they announced the travel roster. Which was typically Thursday, though I can’t say for sure now. Maybe he cleared late, but we had JT running the scout team this week since he was iffy. The game plan reps went to the other 3.

This is his first year with the Dawgs.
1) it acclimates him to the road trip routine
2) it allows him to wear a headset. The more he thinks like our OC and head coach, the better.

Essentially, it better prepares the most important position player when he does get his turn. Easy decision to travel him.

Stipend?

You would know more about that than me.
Without a car, I presumed meals, transportation and lodging were handled by the team. It's tough to go out and eat unless the team is providing a shuttle.

Is this Bennett's third fall since high school?

I know he was not highly recruited out of HS. A guy that has been out of HS for a while can mature, get stronger, learn the game and get prepared to play at this level. He is quicker than I thought. He could make a run at this job. I would not sell him short. The guy has plenty of smarts, I saw where he scored 30 on his ACT.
