I'd go with coach O as well I heard on 680 today Buck bring up a guy at UNC assistant DC said he was in the running the year CTG was hired anyone know who that is

Coach O is, by far, the best choice should we have to replace Grantham. NFL experience, and knows our system, no huge changes to overhaul the defense, and all the kids know h and are familiar with him. This is a can't lose move, if it has to be made.
Love,
Willie Martinez

The decision rubbed some of the board of directors the wrong way and I can tell you that Kirby Smart will not be on their short list ANYTIME soon, be it DC or HC or any other position.

Cool. I will be sure to let my uncle know that you are much more in tune with his feelings on the subject than he is.

I don't care about your uncle. I know many of the same people and also know Kirby to boot. At this stage, to say he wouldn't get a long look at a potential HC job in the future is ludicrous.

Find your guy, make him an assistant HC , HCIW, million a yr, and move forward.
Can't really do that anymore. Handcuffs recruiting. How much longer on Richt's contract though?

Respectfully disagree. Coach O has exactly zero experience as a coordinator. The best part of his résumé, his time with the Redskins, was spent mostly as a position assistant coach or a quality control guy. In other words, most years he wasn't even the head position coach or the head special teams coach, he was the assistant to the head guys. He left the skins because after he had a few years as the actual linebacker coach, they demoted him to an assistant guy again.
I'm not saying he's a bad coach or that he hasn't done fine so fat at UGA. He's just never shown to be a coordinator. And the UGA job isn't a place anyone should get on the job training solely because they were already on the staff.

Truer words. The school dodged a metaphorical bullet by taking a chance with Richt when they did.

How many of the same thread do we have to have. Yes, Smart.

I don't want coach O.
He was probably our best coach in 2011.
And our worst in 2012.
What gets me is why a long-time NFL guy goes to UGA to become a position coach for 2 ILB.
I think he got too much credit for being in the NFL. He was there because of who his dad is.
Not ready for DC material in my opinion.

We actually offered the DC job to Vic Koenning prior to offering the job to Grantham.
Vic was being suited by Illinois to be their defensive coordinator. After speaking with Richt, he told Illinois thanks but no thanks. He was in his car driving to Athens when we told him that we were going in another direction.
Vic had the walk of shame back to Illinois, but they took him.
He's the kind of coach who is a master at turning programs around. He's had big success at Clemson, K State, and Illinois. He's an assistant DC / ILB coach at UNC right now.
Unfortunately, he's a 4-3 guy. That's not the worst thing in the world. But changing schemes every 3 years or so is not conducive to team success.

3-4 to 4-3 may not be so difficult if you're pulling folks like Bellamy from De to olb anyway. Why not take two guys at over 300 that would've been a nt and put'em both down. Secondary isn't moved at all. The big concern is how much speed do you have in your two olb's and who takes center stage at MLB? Jhc maybe if he packs on 20# and he would be amazing in the middle IMHO. Depth on the d line is a concern but we've been dealing with that anyway so what's the frickin difference! If he goes frick the schematic drivel and find a monster of a coach. Idgaf if he wants to run a 34 43 44 52 he could run a damn 1 1 9 just get the go&#*#n job done!
