If Eason doesn't get significant playing time at Missouri...

he would probably be justified not only in transferring but possibly in leaving the team now.

This would obviously be a bad thing for UGA - considering Ramsey would become the backup QB - but Eason really ought to be a little ticked off after the Vanderbilt situation.

Despite our domination of Vandy, Eason didn't come in until very late and wasn't given snaps with the first team. Kirby explained continuing with Fromm for almost the entire game by saying, "It's a feel thing." When he did go in, Eason had some bad luck...though Kirby basically tried to "own" that sack...moot either way.

My point is, sending in your backup quarterback for the last few minutes of a blow-out makes complete sense in most circumstances.

But does it make sense when that backup quarterback was actually the starter at the beginning of the season and had been out purely due to injury? It's not like he lost his job by being outperformed in a head-to-head battle with Fromm while both were healthy.

Smart's handling of the situation at Vandy sends a pretty strong message to Eason. The message is, "We're winning with Fromm, so even though you're healthy now, you're not going to get an opportunity to win the the job back -- unless Fromm gets hurt."

Fromm seems a better fit for this kind of offense, even if he can't make every NFL throw and won't often have to pass more than 15 times a game.

That said, if I was one of the top 2-3 pro style QB's in the country coming out of high school, started as a freshman with a crappy OL in front of me, and was the starter until I got hurt, I think I would be taking it personally that I was only given a few minutes of garbage time at the end of the Vandy game. I would definitely be paying very close attention to my role at Missouri.

If Eason gets 3-4 minutes with the #2's and #3's at the end of the next game, neither he nor his family owe Smart further allegiance. He could rightfully say, "Since I'm not actually being given further opportunity, I'm going to check out now...not be your emergency QB for 6 to 8 more games."

Smart needs to go with the best QB for this team...and that may be Fromm. (Let's face it, Eason was really Richt's recruit and Fromm was the guy Smart flipped from Alabama in his first real recruiting class).

At the same time, I can't say I would blame Eason for giving Smart the metaphorical single-finger salute if he's wearing a headset on the sidelines after we're up 30-3 at halftime against Missouri. (That is, unless Eason is actually getting some first-team time in practice and simply isn't performing as well as Fromm).

Here is your single finger salute.

Or... he could keep improving and win back his job as starter.

Yeah, transfer when you're undefeated and potentially 5 games away from a title run.

That would make sense.

Hopefully Eason doesn't feel the way you do about the situation. Eason got hurt. He lost the starting job to Fromm. Fromm seems to have good command of the offense and is doing extremely well for a Freshman. Now that Eason is apparently healthy he's going to have to win back the starting position through work ethic in practice and by making the most of any playing time he gets. Just remember, Fromm is a true Freshman and needs plenty of playing time to be ready for some very tough games we have ahead.

I tend to agree with the OP.Smart was already using 2nd and 3rd Stringers when Eason got in the game. I agree with staying with the guy that got you there, but he could have put him in earlier. If things keep going the way they are with QB Fields coming in,he will most likely transfer out.Washington's current QB is a Senior,so he could consider that, but I just don't see him sitting on the bench, especially when he was after all, named the starter.shite happens, injuries happen what ya gonna do.

I remember a couple years back all but one SEC team had to use a 2nd string QB as a starter. Eason earned the job over a true freshman. That True Freshman now has 4+ games under his belt and an undefeated record. If Eason is the better QB, Kirby will play him.

Fields is a long way off and anything could happen with him over the next year. If Eason doesn't believe he can earn his job back, then maybe he should transfer.

I think it is firmly in the lead for the stupidist post of the Smart era.

Yep. I kept reading hoping he would talk himself out of that asinine point of view. Now I sit here wishing I had my wasted time back.

No, that would make him the ultimate count, and he isnt a count. Quit encouraging countiness.

You’re one of those fairness people who think everything in life should be fair. Right? If Eason wants good advice here’s some....most of life’s greatest lessons come from trying times in life, so don’t run from it, embrace it, fight for it and win! That way when he’s 80 something sitting in a rocking chair on his front porch and he drifts away in thought he can get a mini hard on (sort of) knowing he was the man way back when.

This is the correct response. If he quits in the middle of a season it would say a lot about his character. If he wants to after the season, that would be his choice/option, but not in the middle of a season.

Eason may could have taken a medical redshirt this year assuming he wanted to transfer to a school where he could play right away. The fact he decided to play mop up tells us he plans on fighting it out or transferring to a school that requires him to sit out, so he may as well play when he can since he will essentially be using a redshirt next year.

It's clear he lost the Jon to Fromm and that Smart, to his credit, kept it quiet, thus avoided a QB controversy. Now that we are 6 games in and Fromm has won, the teeth of any controversy are dulled.

Eason' smart play will be to be a team player, work to get better and be ready in case Fromm gets hurt. If That happens, he could earn his spot back or at least make an argument for it.

If Fromm stays healthy through the NC game, I see Eason transferring in February/March.

of course it is

if he leaves now, his name is mud everywhere & he knows it

transfer at the end of year? would be hard to blame him...

fwiw - I do not believe that Fields will beat Fromm for the starting position next year - I think we are about to start using a 2 QB system though

This would have been the only thing that might have made sense, but he obviously thinks he can win the job back.
