Semperfidawg is a good American.

No doubt he did. My point was he needs the other guys to do their job too. The o line blocked better, WR made plays, and we quit shooting ourselves in the foot. All that plus Stetson being Stetson turned into a magical moment.
Just like he didn't lose the SECG on his own. Swings both ways.
I can't get over how well our defense played. Just one touchdown, and that also from within the red zone.

Keep things positive yo… we,re winning this
I posted this at 9:43pm last night and got two downvotes.
Just don't get the mentality of some of our fans.

No problem. In this. Kirby proved me wrong last night. Dawgs went to win that game and they delivered. I will no longer doubt Kirby when it comes to Bama.

Stet played an absolutely miserable game for 45 mins...
It was refreshing to see him acknowledge the poor play for the first 3Q during the presser this morning. I believe his words were "let's face it, we sucked".
All in all, it's even better to be on the winning end of late-game heroics for once, instead of having our hearts ripped out once again in the closing minutes.
The entire team needed to step up, and they did.

I don't think anyone bashing stet in the game thread was unjustified.
Stet played an absolutely miserable game for 45 mins...he redeemed himself but people don't need to act like he had a great game.
He started off rough, no doubt. But man, he threw 3-4 passes that were absolutely killer....and not just in the 4th quarter. The pass to Pickens was great (yes he also made a great catch). The pass to Bowers for the TD was great, (Didn't seem like much but he had just the right touch and elevation to get over a rusher) and the pass to Mitchell was a perfect throw.
I mean, early in the game and the pass/fumble were awful, no doubt. But to insinuate or think that he played an okay game is way off base.
Our fan base wants an elite QB that puts the team on their back and wins games. I get that. But Bennett was never that guy, and never will be. He is a guy that, when the pressure was on and the chips were down did what needed to be done.
Just like the loss in the SECCG was a team effort....the win last night was also a team effort.
Bennett didn't lose the SECCG and he did not win the game last night. He did what was necessary to put the team in position to win.
You can have a Bryce Young, and if he gets shut down you can lose a game. If you have a team all playing together one player can get shut down and you still win.
Zamir and Cook played lights out. Bowers, Pickens and Mitchell played lights out.
Nakobe Dean, Devontae Wyatt and Trayvon Walker played lights out. Jordan Davis did exactly what we needed. he made the occasional play, and soaked up blocks. he played lights out. Alabama could have stoppe any one or two of those players and we would have still won.
We stopped Bryce Young and slowed Will Anderson down a bit and Alabama lost.

Took a ton of sacks, played scared, made bad presnap reads, fumbled the ball in the open field untouched, fumbled on our own RedZone
I am so happy we won and stetson stepped up, but he didn't play well for much of that game
He did not.
All of this is 100% accurate and cannot be disputed. But, of course, you're being labeled as unreasonable.
You're going against the media narrative that Stet put the team on his back and carried us to victory...the "storybook ending"! Instead, we had an offense that struggled all night until the run game got going a little and allowed us to attack their secondary, all the while having our ELITE defense carry the fricking load on their shoulders for four quarters. If not for Ringo's pick-6, we very well may not have won that game.
Did Stet have some nice throws? Absolutely. Is that why we beat Bama? No, not in the least. Defense, defense, defense.

So he gets the blame for the first Alabama game, but none of the credit for the 2nd?
Sounds about right.

Anyone up for pulling the best "hot takes" from the game thread?
Posted on 1/11/22 at 11:33 am to FooManChoo
In the game thread...there was no way of knowing stet was gonna step up in the fourth. Lord knows we are all glad he did.
So those getting down on stet makes sense to me, however those doubting we could win, I get the disdain.
I will however put part of stets struggles on Monken. He called an absolutely terrible game in the first half.

After that long drive on the ground, I was mystified that Monken moved away from the run game just as it was beginning to gel.

I will tell you JD even though I never said a negative word about Stet. You showed an unbridled and mostly unnecessary loyalty to Stet and he paid off for all of us.

I was wrong about Pickens. When he went down in the Spring, I thought he'd never suit up for us again. I was vocal about this opinion. I didn't have faith in his character to do anything but focus on the draft. He proved me very very wrong. What a fierce competitor and an elite receiver.

I said before the UAB game that we could win a national championship with stetson.
What i never said is that Stetson is our best qb. Stetson is our 1A.
I overestimated our QB room. I underestimated the confidence that the team had in stetson to be the guy through thick and thin. I underestimated stetsons ability to absorb hits with his frame and to continue to play at a high level.
