I don’t care about their rankings coming out of high school. Sometimes 3 stars end up 5 stars and vice versa.

Bo is going to play behind his best OL unit in his college next year. I hope the game slows down for him.

Hey I like this Oregon fan, maybe we should take them over Texas or Oklahoma.

Kirby is not going to run it up on Lanning. I would worry about Oregon if this was year two under Lanning but as it is, game will be over by half, score 38-13.

I am not sure if Lanning will get a better pair of ILBs to work with than he will this year. The talent on defense he has to work with is good. There are some positives and negatives about the timing.

I’m less convinced this will be a blowout mainly because of Oregon’s O-line and defense. They’re good. We have Carter and co but this may be the best O-line we face.

I’m not sure how anyone can accurately comment on Flowe. He’s played like 4 games in 2 seasons. Athletic as hell but not much experience because of his injuries. Sewell is a stud, but I’ve heard he was kinda out of shape last year.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us run a lot of sideline to sideline stuff to wear Oregon’s talent out. Also, of all their talent, I think their d line is maybe the weak link on D. Not that they’re bad just not special. If our o line is as good as it I think it can be (go away Erricson), we should be able to wear them down.

I don’t think Nix is as terrible as some do, but he doesn’t trust his o line at all. Even with Auburn last year. Their o line wasn’t quite as bad as I thought, yet he’d bail asap because he’s comfortable doing so. Overall he’s just inconsistent and whiney when he doesn’t get calls in his favor.

Ultimately I’ll say good guys 34, Quackers 20

He is no where near the stack of lbers he has had at UGA and Bama.

It takes a year to implement this defense. Its Kirbys d and he took a year himself.

The interior DL will be good if those starters are good to go. It will also have depth.

Brandon Dorlus and Popo Aumavae were the top two graded interior DL in the PAC last year. Keyon Ware Hudson was really coming on strong last year before the injury.

Oregon also added Taki Taimani from UW who played out of position but still graded as the 5th best interior DL in the PAC. Casey Rogers transferred from Nebraska and was pencilled in to start on the interior DL there. Oregon should be able rotate a lot of bodies.

The lynchpin is CB2 and I would say free safety is the 2nd questionable spot. If there’s a weak link, it will be the secondary.

ILB is by far the most talented position on Oregon’s roster. This is by far the best stack of linebackers Oregon has had.

He’s not getting what he had at Georgia and Bama here.

Do you see a lot of man coverage in 2022?
Will you be more of a zone team?
Are you blitzing to get pressure? Or just relying on 4 or 5 to get home?

4 NFL TE’s on the field at the same time… all are 6-5 or better… and the best O-Line in America. That pretty much sums up Oregon’s tasks.

I am not sure about coverages yet. It’s Lanning scheme married with some things Aranda did due to Powledge coming from Baylor as co-defensive coordinator.

I expect the simulated pressure that Georgia did with sending 4-5 from all over the place.

Lanning changed the scheme to fit the personnel. We weren't firing ILB in 2020 or 2019 like we were in 2021. We shifted from more man coverage in 2019 to more zone coverage in 2021. All of it was personnel related, imo. We stunted more in 2021 than we did the previous 2 seasons.

The takeaway should be that Lanning won't rely on something that doesn't fit your personnel.
Did you have any takeaways defensively from your spring game?

It will happen at some point of the season. If it were me, I'd employ it the week before Florida or Tennessee when we reach the opponents 35 yard line and go hurry up offense. Script 5 plays to the end zone. More than likely, we will get a personnel mismatch and not need all 5 plays.

We'll need a really smart QB with the ability to get the ball to the playmakers and find the holes in the coverage, and also use his legs to punish a prevent-sell-out.. If only we had a QB that was excellent at that.

He had inside linebackers blitzing like Georgia last year. The DL wasn’t available in spring. It’s really too hard to tell right now.

We had several ILBs that were good at coming through clean on blitzes and I would hope we are more in zone with the type of secondary we have.

I know you will be in 13 personnel but 4 TE would be a sub package used infrequently.

You have freakish TEs but Gilbert needs to keep his head on straight and Washington stay healthy before you rely on crazy packages.

The good news for Oregon is we are long on the backend.

Gilbert might not be a TE when the season starts. Both Bowers and Washington were out for Spring practice so Gilbert had to fill a role there. It's more likely he'll be a receiver with his abilities and a crowded TE room. People obviously talk about Bowers and Washington, and of course Gilbert with the drama around him, but there's two other elite TE's in Delp and Seither in that room. You should watch the UGA Spring game to watch those guys, including Gilbert, ball out.

You absolutely cannot fight the Seither.

Zone coverage is better against Stetson Bennett. We are deadly against man coverage. And I mean deadly. Imagine Mike Leach with UGA talent deadly.

Rushing 3 or 4 and dropping the defense to create small windows is the way to beat every QB (Aaron Rogers, Mahomes, Stafford, etc..). Stetson is no different.. Sending 4 or 5 on third and long isn't awful. But you need eyes on Stet ready to jump windows.

Bennett gets the ball up and down better than any QB I can remember. DBs in a chase technique aren't going to fare well (you need cover two). But that makes stopping the run more difficult. Especially with the big bodies at TE sealing off defenders.
