Might as well be trying to teach my dogs algebra. Been together over a decade and I’ve been a rabid Georgia fan much longer than that. She always has just been there for the booze and snacks but now she wants to learn but I cannot break through to her.

Just tell her to focus on drinking and blowing you. Keep her on task.

This.

It is otherwise a fruitless endeavor.

Every woman in my immediate family gets it. My 80 year old grandmother gets it. She loves the falcons and auburn (her favorite son my uncle went there) and Texas tech bc she went there

All the females in our family get it. Primarily, they have been raised on it since birth.

Like all things female...if she really wants it..she will get it.

Football was hard for my wife to figure out at first. But for some reason, once she understood baseball, she started to figure out football-think the latter seemed far too complex at first. Starting with a simpler sport did the trick.

Considering she didn’t even pick up English until her teens (she moved here from Russia), I’m impressed she can sit through a whole game now, understand what’s going on and yell at the TV with me when the refs make a horrible call. If she can learn the game, I’m confident anyone can.

No one in my family ever wants to watch a game around my sister. She drives her husband and son crazy with completely batshit comments and questions. Thanksgiving is the only time that I'm there and turkey day NFL sucks regardless.

The only thing worse than a man who doesn’t understand football trying to talk like they understand football, is when a woman does it. They tend to have that raspy grating voice. I feel bad for people who have to be around them for an entire game. Explains soccer and midlife homosexuality crisis events.

You sound like you have Thanksgiving dinner with Beth Mowins.

I think we all know who you're talking about here, mister, and I do not appreciate it.

My wife is Mexican. From Mexico. Never watched a game until we got married 26 years ago. She doesn't miss a game and every Saturday points at the tv, looks at me and yells "why do they keep running in the middle where all the people are? Everyone knows where they are going to run why don't they do something different"? I'm have yet to provide a satisfactory answer.

Praise the lord my female counterpart knows enough about football to be able to watch the games without questions, but she can not remember anything about baseball to save her life.

Each and every game we watch together is a refresher course on the count, top/bottom of innings, why you get unlimited foul swings, etc.

I'm to the point where I think she's just fricking with me.

I met my wife in Athens when we were students. She saw my passion and decided a long time ago to understand football. She didn't want to be a football widow on weekends. She went above and beyond. I think her second doctorate is in football rules and regulations. There have been more times than I would like to admit where she made me eat my words. She even know when rules are modified before me. God bless my wife.

Next time pause the game, tell her to count the people on each side. We have 5 and they have four, so we have the numbers advantage, so if everyone does their job, running in the middle should be a gain. If she still doesn't get it, tell her she's right and to just say "FTMF" every time she sees it.

Just make sure your answer has at least one reference to crossing a river.
