Lot's of stuffing flying around on about Eason's injury, ranging from "mild sprain" (out 2-3 weeks) to "moderate ACL sprain" (out 6-8 weeks) to "likely ACL tear" (out for season). I'm guessing that 99.9% of the people tweeting have not been in the examining room with the doctors and Eason's parents.

But let's just say that the nature of the injury is serious enough to result in him missing more than 7 or 8 games of the season. Would there be any point to him returning? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to take a medical redshirt and have three years of eligibility remaining?

This would be a sticky situation if he came back in 2018 with 3 years of eligibility while Fromm would presumably have been the starter all of this year (and also have 3 years eligibility left).

Under that circumstance, have to think Eason would be tempted to hit reset and start over at a West coast program.

Meanwhile, there are interesting recruiting implications to these scenarios.

This might all be moot and maybe Eason is healthy in 2 or 3 weeks...but it gets complicated if he isn't.

Ramsey is also a nightmare scenario for the backup option.

I don't see any reason why he would take a medical redshirt if he's healthy to come back after 6-8 weeks. If he's out for the year, of course, but otherwise, no reason.

Eason's leaving after 2018. Why would we waste a medical redshirt on him if we don't have to?

If Eason is out for the year I would think he would be given a medical redshirt. Fromm continues to show signs of greatness. That scenario leads to Eason transferring to another college.

My guess is Fromm will do enough to build a comfort level with the players and coaches. They'll take their time with Eason and ensure is absolutely 100% before he comes back.

NCAA Single Season Interception Record would probably be within striking distance, though. If it comes to that, and he's gonna suck anyway, he may as well suck immortally.

He would use his redshirt, unless he just came back next year, and then was ready to go pro. Transferring is a whole different can of worms.

I still don't understand all of the Eason going pro talk. He's going to have to really pick up his game for this to be a possibility.

Huh? The national media have been bashing him all summer. He is not viewed by anyone other than his family as candidate for leaving early.

It's just his potential. His footwork and mechanics are issues it course.
He's out 4-6 weeks per chatter.
No tear.

Maybe Florida?
No clue

Yes but Eason performed better as a freshman than the UGA quarterback who went on to become the #1 pick in the NFL draft (and just got the biggest contract renewal in league history).

At the end of Stafford's first year, it was still all about potential. I don't think we can declare Eason a bust after three passes in the first few minutes of the first game this season.

Newest rumor. Eason out 6-8 weeks with a sprained ACL according to my guy. Haven't see it published yet. No surgery planned as of now. Full brace and crutches. Kid is in pain.

Latest credible rumor has him hinge-braced and no practice for at least 4 weeks, with 6-8 weeks likely.

So about 2 months likely; up to 3 months worst case.

Looks like it's on Fromm through Missouri, UT, and maybe Florida as well. Hope Fromm is a fast learner because the vanilla offense isn't going to cut it.

If Fromm does well, it will be an interesting situation by November after Eason hasn't played for so long.

I would imagine in 6-8 weeks if we've lost 2 or less game he keeps the job but we'll see

Jacob Eason has a sprained LCL that won't require surgery. No update on how long he'll be out, but will be back this year, per Kirby Smart.

Explains why we didn't see Eason for the rest of the night.
