Brandon Zimmerman @BZSEC
Kirby Smart says QB Jacob Eason (knee) is close to returning to practice, possibly as soon as today.

I hope he is back. Competition is always good, and we need a capable backup....whether it is Eason or Fromm.

We are in an enviable position right now. If Eason proves he has not improved, we will still have Fromm, and Eason would be a great back up to Fromm. If Eason proves to be an improved QB, then we have a great QB with Fromm as a backup. Win/win.

I love Fromm. Think the kid is a great leader/motivator and he's gained some invaluable experience the past 3 games.

But only a fool would say that he gives us a better chance at winning out than Eason. Let's hope we have Eason practicing all week.. Grantham is coming after that arse. He would love nothing more than to f* us up at home at night.

Kirby is rushing him back in hopes he re-injures himself.

Really hope Eason comes back and performs well.

Would fricking hate to see him struggle and lose a close game.

Maybe he's just playing games with MSU so they have to prepare for both qbs.

This is good. Our other backup QB was Brice Ramsey.

I believe that a QB competition is good for the program in this case. Eason still knows much more playbook, but now he'll have to make the throws to stay in the game when he gets in. Before it didn't matter how he performed, he was the QB.

I'd love to see Fromm get a little zone read option action where he actually keeps the ball every now and then. That play was open vs ND, but he always handed it off. He and Chubb need to work on the hand off/keep, though. No fumbles vs MSU.

We ran that play so many times, and the qb keep was wide open 80% of the times we ran it. HST I wouldn't be surprised if coach told Fromm to give it every time. Because if he had kept and gotten hurt, we all know what would have happened...

Even with CMR and Bobo running the plays it seemed like the QB always had lanes open. Mason could have
walked into the endzone vs GT in 2014.

Yea,pretty sure its not an option for the QB to keep it most of the time.At least it seems that way.

Well, he showed little, if any, improvement from the end of the year into the spring game and had the same issues the first game. Just what has he been doing all summer, etc., besides playing pretty boy on a boat? Its been discussed on here before that Eason's work ethic isn't what Fromm's is.

According to Kirby he worked really hard in the off season and made big improvements. Perhaps judging his progress off of a scrimmage and 2 series of the first game of the year isn't as valuable as judging his progress off of his day to day performance in practice.

I've been pleased with Fromm, but I still just can't shake the nervous feeling of having a TFr qb for the 2nd year in a row. He's done an alright job all things considered, but he's still only faced 1 "real" team in his college career. Eason has a full year experience and has played against SEC defenses which Fromm has not. Fromm has also looked fairly good this year due to our much improved WR play, improved running game, and a lights out defense, none of which Eason had last year especially early on. Put Eason in Fromm's place and I don't see how we're markedly worse, but we have the potential to be a good bit better.

I am on the Fromm train, but Kirby would be retarded not to give Eason a shot once he is ready.

I still would like to see what Eason has done to improve since last year. I don't think we have a large enough sample size to know for sure yet. He'll probably be rusty, though, and hopefully the timing with the receivers won't be too messed up from not practicing for a few weeks.

ETA: I'm still on board the Fromm train. I think he's going to keep improving even faster than Eason did last year.

So, if Fromm keeps improving, why bench him?

I mean I can't answer that other then Eason still has a ton of experience over Fromm.

I think Fromm will be the better college QB once its all said and done, but Eason has experience and a godamn cannon arm.

I think you at least let him get some series in and see how he looks.
