What’s the old saying about playing with fire?

They hired Probst, they get what they deserve. $5000 is a drop in the bucket for that program.
Damn shame they let their greed overcome their good sense.

Is that dude still allowed to coach there?

No, he’s gone. Boosters are meeting tomorrow night and I’d love a ringside seat. The $5,000 is a drop in the bucket. They’re about to get sued.

As an old alum of the now nonexistent Albany High School I really enjoyed the NY Times article.
When I was a high school student Albany beat Valdosta two out of three years. The 1966 6-0 last second win in Valdosta was unforgettable.

Actually it's already been filed. Alan Rodemaker's wife suing City of Valdosta Board of Education for his firing before nutcase was hired.
Valdosta football is done.

Their top assistant for several years has also left for Pelham.
It’s going to take a total rebuild to get that program back when the dust settles from this, and I don’t think their school board has the wherewithal to do it. Going to take a total system reboot, admin included, now.

My point is, as you said, they have problems. School board and Booster Club are involved in infighting and racism.

From what I understand the school and the area is pretty much on a downhill slide there isn't much that can be done to turn it around.
Not saying they can't be competitive in 6A but I don't think there's too much going on in the long run

My next door neighbor Tommy Ross, played QB for AHS in 1959 when they won the state title. I played at AHS in the early 70's and we were mostly a 6-4, 5-5 team. By then, they had 4 public high schools, and 3 private high schools in Albany, and that spread the talent out too much for the teams to really be able to compete with the Cats, Moultrie, and even Thomasville to some extent. I stayed injured as much as I was healthy, but did get recruited by UGA, Ga. Tech, and a couple of smaller schools. Couldn't get the knee stable enough to do anything, so I went in the military for 20 years.

It’s kind of surprising that the demographics of Valdosta have changed like they have. Crime rate is high and it’s listed as one of the most dangerous towns in GA. The racial makeup of the school board and booster club have changed. Will Valdosta be the next Albany? Hope not.

F them for playing the race card and firing Rodemaker.

None of this would have happened if they had kept him.
He’s actually the one largely responsible for these sanctions because had he not brought the lawsuit, Nub Nelson would have never been deposed and probably never would have released the tape.

Karma's a bitch. They deserve every bit of it after the way they handled the Rodemaker situation. Hate it for the kids though.

Gulfportdawg, I was a 10 years-old rabid football fan when that 1959 state championship game against Marietta was played. The game was played in Marietta. I wasn't there but my ears were glued to my family's enormous console radio. I was ecstatic when Albany won.
Albany High Indians always hated Valdosta and the great Wright Bazemore.
