I don't try to know about the history of other teams and universities.
But I am curious why the University of Oklahoma calls itself "OU". Shouldn't it be "UO".
This is like half of the Auburn fanbase and almost all of their verbal commits calling themselves the University of Auburn.

It's a Big 8 thing. Kansas is KU, Nebraska is NU. Missouri went by MU for a while. Colorado is CU.
Also, in the early 1900s, there was a lot of printed materials where OU was listed as "Oklahoma University".

Doesn't Oregon refer to themselves as UO? It's no better or worse than OU...
Interesting answer from the Sooner. Makes sense. I've never seen Nebraska referenced as UN... always NU.

No. It makes as much sense as a high schooler committing to the University of Auburn.
Is it an explanation? Yes. Does it make sense to not use sequential letters? No.

Given that we call our school UGA and not UG, this might be a good one to avoid.

It's a sensible explanation... not saying that the decision to do so makes sense... but the explanation does.

Welcome to the board. be ready to be trolled merciless, but welcome, anyway. If you are seriously wanting to know anything specific about Georgia football, start a thread and you will probably get plenty of responses. If you don't come on here and troll most will be nice. If you troll, though....oooooooweeeee!

Now if we can get the Nerds to understand how stupid they look when they spell it UGa, then we're in business.

like 90% of kansas basketball commits say they are headed to "Kansas University" due to the KU thing.
but, yeah, it's a big 8 thing. and it actually makes things a lot easier
who is UK? who is KU? wow, that's nice and avoids a mess.
who is UM? who is MU? you actually know the difference don't you?
who is OU? who is UO? you know the answer, right?
do you know who CU is? UC? i bet you do!
now, who is USC? who is UT? frick, i don't know!
thank you, big 8, for making my life easier!
