They didn’t practice because of his height; Daniels assumed they practiced it because his tendency to throw over the middle. Unlike, past QBs who prefer the screen and check down routes.

The wheel route to number 4 for the TD was perfect and he actually overthrew 7 in the 1st.

I usually agree with you but the wheel to Cook was underthrown.

I will take your word for it. My recollection was he caught it in stride.

Looks more like a 9 route. Cook adjusts speed Just a tad but does not have to change direction or break stride. I’d call that a good pass. Especially throwing to a short player over a tall defender. Little extra arc.

It was a TD so yes, good pass. However, if coverage were a little tighter it could've been a problem. Cook beat that guy so bad he couldn't catch up.

If a guy is wide open, sometimes you will take a little off it so you don’t overthrow them. It could be a little bit of that and trying to get some arc on it. Either way, cook adjusts stride, but never really breaks it. Given the circumstances, I’d call it a good pass.

Wheel route? Are you talking about the motion out wide then he ran a go for a td?

I actually called it a wheel. Assumed that’s what Cook ran. The link above shows it was motion to a 9 route

How do you know what Saban had them practice?

I am going off Daniels comments because he actually attends the home teams practice the week of the game.

Daniels is a distraction. Kirby should have said something like "JT is still getting comfortable with his knee this year and is practicing with the team. He may see some limited snaps later in the year."

Pretty much my perspective.
Fromm unexpectedly foregoes his Senior season.
Kirby tries to fill the void with transfers.
In a Covid-19 environment the transfers are wishful thinking at best.
Daniels is not our future.
I don't think Mathis is either. As soon as he took that hit on the sidelines that snapped his head, he realized that recovering from brain surgery is serious business.
So I think we will make the best of it with the mobile experienced Bennett.
Beck and Vandagriff will compete for the starting position next season. They might share time since Brock will be a Freshman and is mobile; for instance in short yardage situations.

I would think that Bennett would have thrown the ball a little farther if Cook had been more closely covered. The pass looked (to me) like Bennett just dropped the ball over the defender to Cook.
