Did Trevor Lawrence progress faster than Justin Fields?

I know we give each other hell about Fromm vs Fields. Some say Fields has more talent but shouldn’t start due to lack of experience. Others say Fields brings another element to the game by being a mobile QB as well as a good passer and we should utilize that IF Fromm is struggling.

Kelly Bryant was benched for Trevor Lawrence who as a freshmen came in and threw for 4 TDs vs tech yesterday and looks to have beaten out Kelly Bryant for the starting job.

Trevor lacks experience but that didn’t seem to matter.

Thoughts?

Kelly Bryant is a far worse QB than Jake Fromm. If he were our starter, I'd want Fields over him as well.

No, not at all, but Clemson is smart to let him grow faster than we are. Smart has blown 2 good opportunities for letting fields play on the road in the sec.

I don’t think we know how much Fields has progressed because he hasn’t had to show us. He has had limited snaps in the two real games we have played and he was given fairly easy throws to make against the cupcakes. While he looked good doing what he’s been asked to do, he hasn’t had an injury (Fromm/Eason) or a struggle (Tua/Hurts or Bryant/Lawrence) force him to prove his worth yet.

He could be a monster when given a chance but he hasn’t had that chance yet.

I swear to god we’ve gotten absolutely ridiculous when it comes to QBs. We’d start Fields and everyone would bitch wishing we did more to keep Stetson Bennett

Bingo! You've got to get the chances, and we don't give Field's any even when Fromm is playing poorly. Clemson wasn't afraid to give Lawrence the chance. We only give Field's chances in games like Austin Peay and MTSU.

Few if any cares whether Stetson Bennett is playing or transfers. Many will care if Justin Fields, a transcendent talent transfers.

So what if Fields plays poorly when he comes in. Then we go back to Fromm and ruin both the QBs' confidences?

Good call

Impossible. He’s the greatest backup QB ever to play the game.

Also you have to remember that we’re living in Fields world and exist solely for him to gain experience so he can win the starting role. If we need to take a loss so we can insert a freshman into a tight SEC game then thats a small price to pay.

There is a big difference in wanting to give the #1 recruit more playing time compared to a walk on. Don't go full retard kid.

Lawrence and Fields would both look like freshman versus a serious defense that could get to them.

I will say Clemson is very PC with that tall girl playing QB...

The amount of people who just straight up do not want to see Fields to get time on the field is amazing to me.

Although I do start to wonder if he's just that bad, because if he was as good as his performance in his limited action would lead you to think, then you have to believe that there would have been moments in two first halfs where your starter was playing extremely poorly that he would've gotten a chance that was more than one goal-line rushing attempt. He must be a very bad practice player, it's the only real explanation.

Only thing I would’ve liked yesterday is to have let him run that entire goal line drive instead of first down and then two throws from fromm and a fog. Why did we do that? He could’ve run it in for a td on 2nd down I bet. He is a little run happy when he doesn’t need to be when he gets into the game for sure.

He’s played in every game we’ve had so far....hell...he played almost half the game last week. Did you consider that maybe Fromm is “off” because he hasn’t played more than 3 qtrs of a game all season?

Did you watch the game yesterday? What drive did you want the freshman QB in where an int or fumble wouldn’t have been a big deal?

What makes you think he’ll fumble or throw an int? Just because he’s a freshman? Is Trevor Lawrence stinking the place up? His freshman status doesn’t seem to make him automatically throw ints and fumble or cause Clemson to lose as you claim.

I just don’t agree with playing it safe and not starting someone at QB because they’re a freshmen. Times have changed and QBs are developing much more quickly than they used to. In certain positions talent can Trump experience and that was no more apparent than the NC game last year. I’m sure Saban was like shite we would have won every game had we put this kid in from the getgo.

Freshman QBs make mistakes....or is Fields immune to that as well?

Do you guys really think Fields is a better QB than Fromm? Yes or no.

Squatch is not the coaches being paid millions to observe him daily to decide if he should play in tight situations.

They are deciding Fromm is the best option then. Argue with them.

So I guess Hurts was better than Tua last year because Saban is the highest paid coach in college football?

So Lawrence didn’t outperform Bryant yesterday and Tua wasn’t better than Hurts last year cause “experience”.

Of course Fields is better. Kirby’s just playing it safe like Saban was last year with Tua. That cost Saban a win vs Auburn and they’re fortunate the playoff committee put them in the playoffs over Ohio State.

Georgia Tech really does suck, it's not just a slogane they really suck. Anyone would look like a star versus that dumpster fire.

So why is Lawrence beating out Bryant vs shitty teams?
