I didn't have a problem with the question. I think it was fair. Raw athleticism is off the charts, but obviously he's not going to go out and win a ton of fade route battles in the end zone a la AJ Green. I'll be excited as hell to have him on the team if he chooses the good guys, but I am hoping that we'll continue to try and get at least one elite 6'2"+ wideout going forward as well... a vastly different dynamic when you can force double coverage with a size receiver and then open things up with athletic WRs like Godwin and Drob. Add in Blaze/Nauta/etc at the TE spot and/or Sony Michel as a legitimate homerun receiving and rushing threat and it starts to become a pick your poison for the defense. This is of course all dependent on other pieces working as expected (OL, QB, Chaney...) but having a kid that electric on the field is never a bad thing, particularly if we're able to have a solid *derecruitment* for him as well and get him to buy in to the need to compete... WRs are by and large the biggest divas to begin with... not saying DRob would be one, but this whole process definitely seems to be a bit in the red flag territory.

And that's kinda my thought process here. AJ was far and away the best receiver I think we've ever had and it was largely due to his size and ball skills (and, as you say, his ability to win those "fade battles"). And again, I'm not saying that D-Rob's skills and athleticism aren't off the charts. I'm just thinking from a macro-view here....there are a LOT of receivers in each class every year....and I'm wondering if there really were no other guys with similar intangibles who ALSO possessed the size factor anywhere in the entire country.

Not to mention, if he was only a 4-star guy last summer, who were the guys in front of him then and why? Where did they end up ranked as of signing day? Obviously, I don't expect many people to really know the answer here, but obviously D-Rob wasn't the consensus pick not so long ago.

Dez Bryant sorta comes to mind, too, though D-Rob appears a little faster.

Dez Bryant is 6'2 225. Much, much bigger than Robinson. DeSean Jackson was the best comparison I've seen, although that's a massive expectation to put on anyone considering how good Jackson was at Cal. Derrick Williams from Penn State in the mid 2000s is another one that comes to mind.

ETA: For those who don't remember Williams, he was an electrifying playmaker as a freshman playing WR and some RB. Wasn't as good in his soph or junior seasons because of some piss poor QB play at PSU.

AJ Greens don't come around in every class. No one like that in this one.

Agreed. Kyle Davis was probably the closest thing physically (6'2" 210 or so) that we were actively recruiting, but don't think he's quite got the same skill set that AJ had.

AJ had the best hands I've ever seen coming out of HS. I say this with full disclosure that I've never seen HS film of Randy Moss or Larry Fitzgerald.

Another topic for another day, but Fitzgerald was the best college WR I have ever watched.

All the more reason it sucks that we lost him to the inexplicable hype of the Gus Bus. Especially when there's no way in hell that kid leaves Auburn with the same coaches as when he signed.

Dez was listed at 6'1 by some services back when he was being recruited, so not really that much taller.

Jackson is still probably the best comparison. Maybe Deion.

No, certainly not. Him and Julio in the same one was pretty crazy. That said, I'm simply saying there are some very good, taller guys out there usually. For a guy listed at 5'11-6'0 to be where D-Rob is in the rankings, he's gotta be something darn good. Hopefully we'll get to find out, first hand.

Damn, I can't be in Athens and I don't get ESPNU. I hate not seeing G Day live, especially if we get a commitment from the nation's top WR.

Would they be allowed to do something like a live announcement for his commitment? Maybe signed FA agreement makes this permissible?
