it’s as if we have fallen off a cliff in recruiting cache. The coaching, development, winning, nfl pitches don’t seem to be landing like they once did.
Define "fallen off a cliff". NIL is driving parity and it's harder now for 1 to 3 programs to hoard elite blue chips like before. Used to be composite class recruiting scores saw huge gaps from #1 class to #10 class but not anymore. Now there is barely a difference between the top 5 schools in terms of recruiting composite scores. There's also plenty of time remaining.
IU proved last year a team of 25+ year old veteran 0 to 3-star but disciplined players could crush younger more talented teams. So retention is becoming extremely important. Kirby is doing a great job of that.

I'm not contributing any money, because I think it's kind of bullshite now. But are we just stacking up 3 stars now? Glad I got to see a Natty in person before all this bullshite
What is Yech doing that we aren’t? They are stacking 4* OL and DL, while we are settling for 3*. Out recruiting is getting super lazy when the nerds are out recruiting us right now

It’s a little redundant but do we still feel good about June lol.

Exactly. This in theory is when we get hot and make our recruiting run. I am not sure one is coming.

I don't see it either. This ain't 2017 or even 2023. 368 of the top 400 in the composite rankings have already committed. Don't look like the old "be patient, our recruiting will get way better" model works anymore.
This is an interesting pivot point in Kirby's tenure at Georgia for sure.

Indiana wasn't the only team using this approach. Many others tried the same shite last year. There has to be way more to their success than that.

Agreed.
Until the rules of NIL change or we get our own version of Mark Cuban, I feel this year is Kirby's last chance at a natty for a while.
He's still the best recruiter in football, but this feels like things are trending to a rebuilding type program vs. a reloading program.

Did Indiana outspend Georgia on its payroll last year? I don't know, which is why I'm asking.

I have no idea, which is a bad assumption on my part.
I just assumed they did with all the hoopla surrounding Cuban. I would be surprised if they didn't atleast for the transfer portal.

They are out recruiting us? I checked and they are ranked #24 with 26 recruits and we are ranked #17 with 17 recruits.
It's awfully early and a lot will change between now and signing day. Some recruits rankings will move up when their senior year starts. Maybe people should sit back and wait instead of hitting the panic button in June.

I really don’t think there was a lot more to it than that. The few that “came out of nowhere” had 2 major things in common. Both ole miss and Indiana we around or over 2/3 transfers and among the oldest programs to ever play in college football by average age. Vandy and Miami were also super old and filled with far more transfers than your average program. I’m sure there are other examples but those just quickly came to mind. I found it super annoying and it got so old so fast listening to the talking heads go on and on about how it is so crazy that Indiana was able to turn it around so fast. I mean, is it really crazy that 23 year olds mercenaries beat 18-19 year olds? Super shocking right?

There is a really annoying post about this on the rant. Cignetti brought a large group of JMU players through the portal that he had already been coaching, had chemistry, and were able to bring other players up to speed. They came from JMU and were cheap as far as NIL goes. He then targeted older, more physically mature portal players who were lower rated portal prospects. All those JMU players are gone now and he had to spend more this offseason to get roster built. They’re bad in high school recruiting rankings. I’m interested to see how they do this season.

Ole Miss has another experienced team in 2026. They have 29 incoming portal players in 2026, who played a combined total of about 10K snaps in 2025. Their full '26 roster played about 20K snaps in 2025. The comparable numbers for Georgia are 9 incoming transfers who played 3400 snaps in 2025. Our full '26 roster played about 16K snaps in 2025.
I don't know their average age, but 2026 Ole Miss has 31 4+ (4th or greater) year players on roster (Georgia has 17). Last year they had 28 4+ year players on roster compared to 16 for Georgia, Going in to the 2025 season their players had an average of 2.85 seasons of post HS football experience (UGA average was 2.25). This year they have an average of 2.83 seasons of post HS football (UGA 2.40). None of those numbers above include special teams players (P/K/LS).

Ole Miss is without that offensive staff and Golding is the HC. Not saying they won’t be good but they will not be what they last year IMO.

Last season was interesting but it remains to be seen if teams can be consistently successful with year after year of heavy roster turnover, even with stable coaching. I'm just pointing out that Ole Miss seems to be one of the teams using that model and they'll still be a very experienced team because of it. I'd like to know what they've spent the last two cycles in the portal.

Wes Johnson seems to be doing just fine at this. Different sport but can’t deny the success. This year could tell a lot.
