Pearson comes in and gives up two straight singles

6-0 Auburn

Sorry to Wagner, my mistake. All our arms suck, apparently

Blaylock gets a base hit but the other 6 guys who have come to the plate this game can’t seem to do anything against this Auburn starter with a *checks notes* 7.26 ERA

It’s 6-0 in the 3rd against a team 3 games below .500 on the season and sporting a .200 percentage in conference play

We are looking to be their first conference series win of the year

Two more singles given up by Pearson in the 3rd

Runners on the corners with nobody out

Sullivan coming in. The first two freshmen pitchers were fricking worthless, let’s see what a third does

7-0 Auburn on a fielders choice

As a reminder, we have 10 remaining games at Florida, at Arkansas, at Tech, and against Ole Miss

We could least afford for this exact week to lay out like it has

Top of our order fricking blows. Gonzo gets a leadoff single and Anderson-Tate-Collins haven’t done shite all day and continue to be worthless

9-7 Tigers the final

Had 2 on with 2 away and Blaylock struck out swinging

Game wasn’t ever close until the last out. Just a miserable performance by our pitching, Sullivan being the only exception. Top of the order was trash, as well.

We just gave Auburn their first conference series win in 2 years and now we have to face the hardest row of our schedule. 1-3 this week, 7-5 for our last 12 and 4-4 over the last 8 and this was our easiest stretch in conference by a good margin.

I am beyond ready for this season to end; this team is a complete chore to follow

About as bad of a week as we could have had. Concerned that we’re going to crumble and not make the tournament.

Freshman pitchers are hitting a wall which is bound to happen eventually.

We just don’t have a stretch in our lineup that you can count on to come up with a timely string of hits or an arm you can rely on to get us through the night. The only consistent thing about this squad is their inconsistency.

We aren’t locked into shot just yet, especially with the schedule remaining. It is still possible for us to fall out of Hoover let alone the NCAA tournament

Sure am glad we gave stricklin an extension. Exactly what the program needed!

For anyone keeping score, DI Baseball now has us as a 3 seed out in Oregon for the Eugene regional.

At this point, I just hope we can make it to the postseason.

Far be it from me to give the guy an excuse, but sure as hell would have liked to have seen what last year's team could have done. Likely would have earned him a little bit of leniency for what we're seeing this season after losing some serious talent.

I think its perfectly reasonable to give the guy a pass. We all know last year was going to be special. But lets not forget, in arguably the toughest conference in baseball, he now has a program winning 39, 46 and 30+ games. The last 3 seasons, we hosted a regional, was a super regional seed, ranked #2 when season was canceled, and now the future is bright with talent

Im not saying there is no reason for frustration. The Missouri series and Auburn series comes to mind. The consistent 10+ runners LOB. The errors at what seem to be the wrong times.

I just think we are in a 10x better spot than I thought we would be, just 5 years ago. Now, enhance the facilities, promote the sport at UGA and lets lock in the pipeline of players for many years to come

Last thing...this season has been crazy. Kids wondering whose staying, whose going. Will there be a season. When and how can we do workouts, train, practice. Can we stay around each other, etc etc. I get that every team went through it, but think it impacted us the most because of our injuries and youth we have on the team.

Need to finish out with 4 wins, 1 against the Nerds, 1 in each series against 3 top 12 teams (Arkansas, florida, and Ole Miss) and maybe squeak out a series. Have a decent showing in Hoover.

Anyways - Go DAWGS!

so do I, but what does it say about the guy that the benchmark of his career here is pinned on a single season that didn't even happen? Look at all the actually good baseball programs aroudn the country and they're still doing well despite sitting out last year too. This is just another part of mcgarity's woeful hiring that I've lamented for years. His hires have been lazy and uninspired that take YEARS to pay off, if they ever do at all. And I don't count kirby because mcgarity had nothing to do with that.

Baseball- Each of Strikin's first 4 years we had a losing record. Awful. The next 2 years we were improved as a team but failed to make it out of a regional both times in embarrassing fashion. The next year we look even better but season was canceled. Now we're back to mediocre and just hoping to make an away regional somewhere. This is year 8, at what point do we accpet reality? Yall wanna fire crean after 3 years but just let stricklin keep going to year 9 and 10 with nothing to show for it?

WBB- In one of the common themes of mcgarity's hirings, seemingly the biggest criteria was that joni had a history here so by gosh that's good enough, nevermind the fact she'd never been a head coach before. Had a decent first year with landers' players (bounced in first round), crappy 2nd year, pretty good 3rd year (bounced in second round), crappy 4th and 5th years, then got upset and bounced early this past year.

Gymnastics- hoo boy, this is the worst of all. We lose the GOAT and think "well, just get one of her assistants" so enter jay clark. Terrible. Ok let's get rid of him. To mcgarity's credit this time we AT LEAST scoured the country and got someone that had been a HC before. And whaddaya know we improved under durante, even if ever so slightly. Ok fine, let's ditch her and get back to winning dammit. Go find the best HC in america? Nope. Let's just go get one of the gymnasts from when suzanne had us rolling! Nevermind the fact that her only coaching experience is at a youth gym, she's a dawg dammit! The results have been exactly as you would imagine they'd be. We went from the bama football/yankees/lakers/UK basketball of the gymnastics world to a complete afterhought embarrassment with zero end in sight. Thanks mcgarity.

Our typically phenomenal men's golf and tennis teams have held on a bit but are certainly down from where they were jsut 10 years ago. Just about every one of mcgarity's hires have either been abject failures, lazy hires, or still TBD. In fact the only hire he's made that at the time was a home run was crean, because we actually went out and got a proven HC and showed that we were willing to pay top dollar for him. And we're only 3 years into that. Again I don't count kirby because I could've been AD and he'd still be our coach.

I’d attribute this more to the fact that we are much younger than pretty much every team in the conference. With the exception of 2-3 guys we have not only played our entire signing class but played them regularly this year. And most of that class hadn’t played a competitive season since 2019. I’ve still got concerns about this season but maintain my optimism for the next couple of years as this team should be quite good based on the abundance of upfront experience these guys have gotten.

2012 & 2013 under Perno were pretty shite years, too. I put the blame for that 6 year span solely on McGarity for not doing more to grab what prominence we had left from the 2000s and building on it. Instead we get a full on rebuild of the roster with little to no improvement of the facility to the point that UGA baseball lost any ground it held under Perno.

quote:

The next 2 years we were improved as a team but failed to make it out of a regional both times in embarrassing fashion.

Kind of goes with above, we finally amassed the talent necessary to hold those regional spots but had no idea as a program how to 1. Beat a hot team with good pitching (Duke) or 2. Beat a hot team with tons of postseason experience. I won’t argue with blaming Stricklin for not having the team mentally ready but we never should have been in a position like that to begin with if our AD had actually done his job.

quote:

Now we're back to mediocre and just hoping to make an away regional somewhere.

It’s a straight up rebuilding season for us relative to other teams. We lost virtually all of our meaningful star power in Hancock, Wilcox, Bradley, and Shepherd in addition to having to move Webb into a starter role because our two original starting pitchers Garrett Brown and Will Childers both got hurt in Fall. That’s not even taking into account CJ Smith bring MIA for a second straight year due to injury and arguably our best hitter being plagued by a bum hamstring all season (McCallister). Meanwhile, every other program returned seemingly everyone from last years squads because of the shortened draft and the extra year of eligibility.

I still want to see us in the postseason for experience sake and I get pissed about losing to lesser competition but it’s a minor miracle we are staring at a possible 30 wins right now. Plus, with or without the pandemic, we were due for a rebuilding season and this was always going to be that year. Florida, for example, went 34-26 and got a quick exit in the Regionals in 2019 (and got swept in Athens that year) after going to back to back CWS in 2017 and 2018. Every team in baseball has to have one eventually.

It's year 8, why are we using poor roster management as a valid excuse?

speaking of, our recruting classes under stricklin have mostly been lackluster especially compared to our peers. We've hit a few home runs getting some big timers here, and have had some solid devlopemnt from some lesser heralded guys, but we are mostly getting lapped in recruiting compared to the programs we want to stack up against.

I mean I can find a reason for every season of football and basektball why we didnt' win more than we did. You can alwasy point to something. We should have breezed through both of those regionals and choked in both.

right, rebuilding in year 8. Next year in year 9 I assume we'll still be playing the "our team is still pretty young" card. In year 10 is it omaha or bust? Why is a guy that has never made it to a super getting 10 years? And why is that same luxury not being afforded to crean? We are a better overall program in baseball than basketball yet we give the baseball loser a decade with practically zero pressure but want to run the basketball loser out of town on a rail after 3 years of constant improvement. It's completely illogical.

CJ Smith officially done for the year; can come back next season if he wants

Liam Sullivan starting Friday with Cannon on Saturday and Webb Sunday. Webb apparently tweaked his back against Auburn which is why he came out as early as he did
