So with Cox being dismissed, are we going after another OLB?

Highly unlikely. Between Burch DE/Edge and Zykevious Walker DE/Edge - current targets, you've got 2 guys that could largely function in that hybrid OLB/DE type role. Would be surprised if this changed our class dynamics much.

ETA: had to add targets there... by no means are either locked down, but presumably if we missed on either or both, the staff has replacement candidates in mind.

I can see the younger Ojulari being given a committable offer. If he is, he'll be a Dawg immediately.

I'd be juuuuust fine with that if we can find the room. He's had a nice camp season this summer and Azeez is proving to be a beast already.

ETA: Trying to put together an optimal "perfect class" - by no means am I projecting/predicting all of these guys:

QB: Beck
RB: Milton, Evans
WR: Rosemy, Robinson, Wren, A. Smith
TE: Washington, [Gilbert or Theo Johnson]
OT: Broderick, Ratledge
OG: Braun, Lindberg
OC: Van Pran

DL: Burch, Walker, Brinson, Carter, [Dexter or Stackhouse]
OLB: Sherman
ILB: Sewell
CB: Ringo, Kimber
S: ???

K: Zirkel*

Safety I left as a question mark... 1) not certain that we absolutely have to take one... 2) if we did, seemingly would be more likely to be Conley than Avantae Williams right now...

If we assume we take a Safety and the rest of those numbers (even if names change) hold steady, that's a class of 25 - including kicker and safety...

Depending on where the cap for us is, that likely dictates whether we can get Ojulari in the class or not. If it's 25, then move Zirkel to a blueshirt and count him toward 2021. If it's 24, then you have to do that *AND* make a decision on another position, like Safety, 2nd TE, or maybe DL/Edge

I think Kirby signs 25 and then works it out later.

The man clearly knows how to play the 85 scholarship game.

I think if he can make it work, he will... I just don't know what the penalty for going over and not being able to massage the numbers is...

Pretty interesting comments from Jeff Sentell today on Dawgnation Daily; basically insinuated we got a whole lotta silent commits of the 5 star variety.

Obviously those situations are fluid but it's good to know we have legit chances at the top guys on our board.

Probably came from LG1 comments...

Had a post that claimed the following are all silents
D. Washington - 5* TE
Van Pran - 5* OL
Ringo - 5* CB

And that "if signing day were today" Sewell - 5* ILB would be a dawg as well..

Grain of salt and all that jazz... but yes, we stand in a very good position with a lot of recruits right now... It's also August and we're competing with great programs for all of them... The battles will continue.

Silent commitments are meaningless. I really can’t stress that enough.

I don’t know if i’d say that. Those kids are often recruiting for you behind the scenes. It’s not all that different from being verbally committed these days.

They’re not meaningless. They do love you, baby, it’s just they’re also banging Bama on Wednesday and Charlene on Tuesday and they don’t want y’all to know about each other.

I would argue that at least 90% of kids that are really serious about recruiting for you commit publicly. A public commitment makes them way more effective at that.

If a kid isn't willing to be known as a commitment, he isn't committed. You might lead, but there's a decent chance he's telling someone else the same thing.

Optimal probably has N. Joseph in it. He wouldn't affect the numbers for us.

Agreed, but he seems to be trending away from us for whatever reason... If we can take him for free (other than space under 85), I certainly wouldn't be upset about it...

Agreed. I just mean that the verbal commits are basically doing the same thing with visits, flirting with other schools, etc. that the silent commits do nowadays. Obviously it’s better for them to be verbal than silent, but I’d rather have them be silently committed to us than committed elsewhere or uncommitted.

The Bammers seem to think he is going to the giant Tuscaloosa trailer park.
