I will say this Lemay was the TRUTH hahahaha. He was the best player in the state of NC coming out of HS. I was personally butt freaked by him and his team in a playoff game my senior year. I got a sack which I say is the highlight of my career. Problem with him was he never picked up on the IQ of the game and had a behavior problem!

He looked like a legit QB in drills. The ball zipped out of his hands. He had accuracy, even with his feet moving.

But it did not translate to 11 on 11 at the college level. All of the tangible tools in the toolbox, though.

Brice Ramsey was UGA's heir apparent. UGA brought in Christian LeMay. Alabama got stud Star Jones to be their big next name at QB. Remember him? He failed to even win the job at GA State after leaving Bama. LSU was going to win it all with Russel Shepard.

Steve McNair played at Alcorn State. Baker Mayfield was a walk on at Texas Tech.

Vernon Adams played at Eastern Washington. Some trash school, right? Except he was setting passing records. He did what Newman did and went to Oregon for exposure and was a great QB for them until he got hurt.

Then there is this other guy. He goes to NC State. Has to be shitty, right? Phillip RIvers went there, sure, but other than Sean Glennon's mongoloid brother who goes to such a lowly school? Well, they have this crazy dual threat guy who goes and plays baseball until the NC State HC says "frick you, you cant play baseball and football". Then he goes, as a grad transfer, to Wisconsin in what was probably their best team with several freak losses. But Russel Wilson, he must suck cause he didn't go to a notable P5 team.

It's pretty ridiculous that I am supposed to be one of the most negative people here and I have to take a step back and say "man, either these people are miserable or dumber than a bag of hammers". Maybe both.

ETA: And I should add here, I don't think Jamie Newman is going to come here and win a heisman. I don't think he's going to win awards. I don't expect him to go in the 1st round. But how folks can bemoan our plight if we take the lowly Wake Forest QB blow me away when he is infinitely a better option.

Here's something to mull on. Maybe in time this wont be the case but our QB room, in it's current state, is weaker than what some perceive the low of being a "Wake Forest".

I think a lot of people are scarred from the Grayson Lambert experience and think "We've been down the QB from shitty ACC school road."

This is a totally, totally different situation.

Absolutely. Ill admit, I was pumped for Lamb Chop but he was also being beaten out for PT on a pretty rough UVA team.

Honestly, Lambert would have been serviceable on this team

Maybe, but the difference between Newman and Lambert physically is gargantuan. Newman is a far more physically gifted than Lambert, and more gifted than Fromm as well. That doesn't mean he's going to come in and win a Heisman and a national title. It would mean we're in a better position than starting a green Carson Beck. It also puts us in a better position with Caleb Williams, potentially.

That's a huge key. If Newnan comes out and has a very good to great season Williams could step in as the favorite to win the open position at a consistent top 5 team and playoff contender while LSU will have a junior QB going into the senior year as the presumptive starter.

I'd actually love for Mathis or Beck to show flashes of brilliance and make it a tough decision, but if they don't a good season from Newnan sets UGA up for a great QB signing next cycle.

Y’all don’t see Vandagriff as a more likely pull for us? I know people want Williams, but that seems less likely at this very moment.

Dude his arm was insanely electric!!! That ball was on a rope everywhere it went and damn he could move too!! His issue if I go back and look at HS tape was he had one read and if it wasn't there he was tucking it and running.

He definitely is the easier pull. Williams has been trending LSU since Thanksgiving.

So if Beck comes in and beats everyone out, who's going to start crying? Just a curiosity thing and to see if my feeling is right...

Neither is more than 50% at the moment IMO. I'm saying this gives us a better chance with Williams than we currently have. Honestly, a good year at QB for a grad transfer should help recruiting any top tier signal caller, but a dual threat having a breakout season in this system will obviously interest similar players more.

I've seen film on both kids, and I like Williams more. Don't get me wrong, though. Brock looks like an NFL guy. He does seem like he's going to come in close to maxed physically which implies more limited growth potential, but I'd certainly be more than happy with either.

You gonna come call us all alters?

In all seriousness I would be incredibly disappointed because that means 3 people (including a grad transfer) all failed to beat out a true freshman. And we would be wasting our best defense yet (potentially, I admit) as a shield for a true freshman who may not even be the face of our program.

Why would we cry? It would mean he was the best option and will likely be a 3-4 year starter unless VG or Williams can beat him out.

Now, if we lose 3-4 games because of him I'd be disappointed that none of them were good enough to make a difference.

What makes you say that? Our two rivals guys said they'd throw there Future Casts out there for UGA if they had to right now on VG.

It's not more than even money because it's a year away. I don't have to tell anyone here about counting chickens this early.

If he's great and we're beating lesser teams the way we should be beating them as well as beating ranked teams, I don't think anyone will mind. If Fields had stunk at OSU, there would be a lot less complaining about Fromm. However, it looks like a generational talent got away from UGA because he wasn't going to play. That makes people like me play the "what if" game and question the coaching decisions. It also doesn't help that we saw Dabo sit an experience starter who led them to the playoffs, for the less experienced but more talented guy.

I just don't know if a unathletic statue in the pocket is the way to win a national title today, unless he's otherworldly.
