Any chance we land Paris too?

He's been to Athens 3 times this spring.
I'd have to think he's giving us a long look at this point.

Murphy fits better into Clemson’s defensive scheme than Kirby’s and obviously Clemson has done just as well if not better defensively over the past few years.
Dabo is the face of the program but Venables going full Bud Foster for Clemson has been pretty huge if not an underrated part of their success

I still haven't figured out why he isn't a head coach yet

He's either holding out for a big name job, or he's content with being a lifer DC like Foster or Mickey Andrews.

I must have missed something due to all the downvotes. You guys keep up with this recruiting shite better than I do.

I think I’ve heard over the years that the only place he’d ever want to coach is at KSU but some big booster over there hates Venables guts and won’t ever allow it
He has been offered bigger and better jobs but the only one he would leave Clemson for is in Manhattan, KS. So maybe he’s just batshit insane (probably the case, actually)

Some people have no desire to be HC. I think he is one of them

Newly hired HC at KSU, Chris Klieman is going to make $2.3M annually... specific details look like:
Fundamentally, we can take a wild guess and figure that KSU isn't going to end up in the playoffs any time soon... and you're not likely to take coach of the year honors more than once in a 5 year period. Best guess would be about 150k in bonuses up for grabs annually for him, if that.
Meanwhile, Venables makes 2.2M this year, goes up to 2.4M next year and has some smaller incentive numbers in it...
Take over what amounts to a pretty limited job in KSU or remain one of the highest paid and most respected DCs in college football for several more years (and potentially wait out the booster that hates him).
Just doesn't seem like there's much incentive to leave frankly... unless he just *really* wants to go run his own ship.
quote:
? $50,000 for guiding K-State to a third-place finish in the Big 12 standings, $75,000 for second and $100,000 for a conference championship.
? $50,000 for a six-win season that ends in a bowl game, $100,000 for an appearance in a playoff affiliated bowl, $175,000 for a playoff berth, $250,000 for playing in the national championship game and $350,000 for winning a national title.
? $25,000 for being selected Big 12 coach of the year or $50,000 for national coach of the year.
? $25,000 for a top 25 finish and $50,000 for a top 10.
Klieman can only claim one bonus in each category. They are valid for every year he remains employed by K-State as the school’s football coach. His maximum earning potential next season is $2.85 million.
K-State athletic director Gene Taylor and Klieman signed the contract earlier this week. It is a six-year deal with a starting salary of $2.3 million. That number will increase by $200,000 at the end of each contract year. He will receive $88,400 for working the remainder of the current year. If he stays until the end of his contract, he will be earning $3.3 million in 2024.

I didn’t downvote you, but I’m going to guess it was probably due to you not checking back one page to see people had already posted about it

No worries though!

Two reasons Venables is still the DC at Clemson.
First, his son is a defensive player at Clemson and he stated he's always wanted to coach him.
Second, he'd probably be the HC at K-State if it weren't for Bill Snyder. When Snyder retired this time, he had been scheming behind the scenes to get his kid the gig to succeed him. The powers that be dawdled around, took too long to kill that idea and Venables decided he didn't want to walk into a shite show in Manhattan.

Venables has also stated that he doesnt want to go to a rebuild. When he becomes a head coach, he wants to be able to step in and win from day one.

That's a little silly... He's a great DC but has no proven track record as a HC, no great career connections to schools that fit that bill AND would likely hire him in sans HC resume (Oklahoma *maybe* if Riley got picked off by the NFL).
I guess there's a chance that FSU might be willing to go that route if they pull the trigger to get rid of Taggart, but they haven't shown a real propensity to pay/invest... And it would mean he'd have a yearly matchup against Clemson.
