Could we even field a team if the season started tomorrow?

we've gotten a ton of transfers in from the portal as well, several which look pretty promising.
I think we all expect a rebuliding year since our roster will be almsot entirely brand new, but it's no secret that crean has always wanted 3 point makers in his offense and up until now we really havne't. Kier, KD, and Horne came in as supposed 3 point specialists and they were good but they didn't really set the league on fire. Just about every transfer we have coming in can hit the 3, the one we got yesterday averages 40% in his college career I think I saw.
Not saying we'll be great, or hell even all that good, but I don't think we're going to be as bad as felton's 2nd year or anything

Sorry to interrupt the justified Crean bashing but I thought this guy was going to be a damn good coach. And boy was I wrong

Did we read the same article? Bc tbe one you linked doesn't speak negatively towards crean at all unless you're one of the ones (and there are many in here) who just have an axe to grind and will hate the guy no matter what. I mean what excuses specifically do you see him making? Here is what I took away from the article:
Seems like he's staying on top of things as best as possible. The opposite of excuses.
I love that
Hmmm. So basically...the problem wasn't the culture or anything to do with uga, he just felt he should be putting up better numbers than he was. So hes Justin fields lite.
Lmaooooooo. Our fans are spewing fire and brimstone about our transfers and we aren't even leading the pack.
As I've said a thousand times. You literally can't compare creans tenure to any other in uga history bc nobody else has has to deal with the portal. This is reality now and EVERYONE is dealing with it. At one point there were 1300 fricking players in tbe portal.
Is he wrong? We haven't shot tbe 3 well in ages while most good sec teams do. Guess who we got in the portal? Great 3 point shooters.
I seriously fail to see how anyone could choose that article to find fault with the guy. If anything it makes him more likeable.

Crean is putting in long hours in his UGA office — as late as 1 a.m. — breaking down transfer tapes.
“What I do is I start with their offense and I start with the last game they played to the first game that they played,” Crean said. “Then I get into anywhere from 80 to 120 different defensive clips and then I’ll ask for different sections: minutes in games, I’ll ask for all the assists from the last 15 games they played or all of their 3s. … I have to see it myself.”
He brought his laptop to his daughter Ainsley’s volleyball tournaments on weekends.
“Watch between games,” he said. “You’ve got to stay on top of it.”
Seems like he's staying on top of things as best as possible. The opposite of excuses.

Fagan transferred to Ole Miss after a season in which he started 25 games and averaged a career-best 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
“Sometimes you can be in a situation and you reach the max of who you can be there,” Fagan said from his home in Thomaston. “It wasn’t where I wanted to be so I felt like it was time for me to move on. … For me, it wasn’t about the culture or the guys around me or not getting this or that.”
Hmmm. So basically...the problem wasn't the culture or anything to do with uga, he just felt he should be putting up better numbers than he was. So hes Justin fields lite.

Twelve players have transferred from the program since Crean’s first season — tied for third most in the SEC with Mississippi State and Arkansas and behind only Texas A&M’s 18 and Florida’s 13,

Crean was asked what he’d say to fans alarmed by the roster turnover coming in a year where the rules will allow first-time transfers to play immediately.
“I’d say we’ve got to keep on understanding we’re not outliers,” Crean said. “We’ve got to keep on understanding that change is here and that it’s coming

We’re still missing too many open shots, especially open 3s,” he said. “It just drives me to another planet, but we’ve just got to continue to recruit to try to be better there.”

I haven't read the article yet, but I don't understand how his biggest concern is missing "open shots" when we have been abysmal at valuing possessions since he arrived... so many sloppy, uninspired offensive possessions with seemingly no intentionality. I understand the tempo/constant push will sometimes cause things to go awry, but it's so often.
We have not shot the 3 well since he took over, but he also knew that we didn't have anyone on the roster who shot the 3 well... You can want to make open 3's all day, but if you have a poor 3 point shooting team, that's outright terrible coaching to tell them to just take the shot anyway more often than not.
I'm of the mind that if we don't have a better alternative that's jumping at the chance to take the job, it certainly doesn't make sense to bounce him and pay the buyout, but I'm concerned that nothing in his time here gives me any indication that he understands *how* to build the program here even for immediate success, let alone sustained long term improvement... If the recruiting had gone gangbusters after landing Anthony Edwards, I'd have said ok cool, he may not have maximized Antman's time here, but it brought in subsequent talent that can be the basis of something to build on... but that's not really what we're seeing. I think you've seen me post long enough to know I'm not really a knee-jerk reactionary poster, but I'm kind of where Porter was... I was really pretty optimistic about the Crean hire and he just continues to make me feel dumber for ever thinking that way.

You can blame the portal, but the portal means you need to recruit players throughout their entire careers. If players don’t like you..and staff don’t like you, you are going to be at a disadvantage in the era or the Portal. It’s science!!

Kd Johnson in the portal now.
7 out our top 8 scorers are gone. Nothing to see here. if Fox was the coach it would be 8 of 8. So really we should be thankful for our savior Tom Crean.
Andrew Garcia also in portal

Big shoutout to the guy who still thinks crean is doing awesome with all the quotes.
Kd Johnson gone too. He literally wasn’t capable of keeping one person. I bet our walk on transfers or we give him a scholarship just to keep him.
You keep educating me brother.

This is truly astonishing considering we literally have 0... ZERO players from last year’s roster. Crazy

Can’t believe so many are walking away from a “free education “ at UGA.

Maybe with this new UGA Bill, Crean has some NBA talent ready to do some glory hole commercials...
