The only thing that would be dumb would be them dropping players to try and create more interest on February 2nd instead of us already having the #1 class locked up, but I don't think that's the case.

Very likely the case imo.

16 of UGA's 22 commits are now ranked lower by 247 than they are on the composite. Only 4 are ranked higher. That seems unlikely to me. It's a business so I don't really blame them.

Wow. Didn’t realize that many dropped. I just thought it was Mays, Cook, and Cox. 16 players dropping is insane. Figured Ojulari and White did b/c of injuries. Hill and Salyer were awesome all week so I don’t know why either of them would drop.

I guess they felt like they needed to do something to get NSD more exciting then. Wonder if Texas, Ohio St, and Bama players got any bump. That would probably be the case if they were trying to make the classes closer.

I think we're ahead of tOSU 309.15-306.1, with 22 signees for both.

Don't know about Texas, but a poster on 247 says Bama, OSU, and Clemson all went up.

Clemson

Yeah I think they added 2 5 stars. However, Jackson Carmen dropped like a rocket.

Like that Campbell and Quay both moved up a good amount on the 247 rankings. Otis Reese had a huge move up as well.

Taylor-Stuart dropped but we likely weren't getting him anyways.

and 2 of those 3 could also end up at Bama considering one is committed there and one is visiting and you can never count them out. Could give Bama they jump they need to take their predestined spot at number 1 after they got a jump of 389total spots on 247 today.

Not surprised our kids dropped. They were ranked so high wasn’t much else for them to do. Good problem to have. These ranking won’t matter anymore when we get to September.

Oh I don’t care about rankings. Just had to laugh about James Cook.

Doesn't really bother me to see some of the players drop.

Not really the point. It's just the inconsistency of it all. As I said elsewhere, our coaches don't (nor do I terribly) give a shite what the recruiting sites rank these kids. They feel good about the evals they've done and the talent they're bringing in.

I agree on Mays as well. His senior season didn't warrant unanimous 5* rating in all likelihood. Cook on the other hand seems to be an attempt to ensure that he doesn't end up a composite 5* since he was close. Nothing about his play justifies a 20 spot drop in the rankings, when the discussion coming out of the AA game was not only that he excelled in his role, but that he may have been the best *receiver* in the game period. As an APB, that is a pretty substantial component of the role that he's been rated for. Dropping him because he "doesn't run inside" or "seek out contact" is like grading a sprinter on their ability to run a half marathon... It's simply not what is expected out of him, nor was he asked to do it...

As to the Lawrence/Fields situation, I do understand the point, but in that scenario, then you're saying the AA game shouldn't really count, except 2 years prior Eason was shuffled back in the pack due to a *less* poor outing than Lawrence had. He looked downright bad against quality competition... While I understand the AA games are tough to get a read, he looked uncomfortable. Additionally, dropping Zamir, arguably one of the most productive HS RBs that we've seen in a long time - not accomplished on volume but on efficiency - drops 7 spots after an injury, but Ja'Marr Chase tears his PCL and hasn't played since then, but drops 1 spot. Much like my officiating... I like my recruiting rankings to have some consistency. Unfortunately, for us... neither are likely.

Think that's a point and a half or so back of where we were prior to the re-rank? 310.6 seems to be what I remember?

I know that if we'd added Quay Walker, Tyson Campbell, and Tommy Bush, it took us over the 320 threshold before, now just below at 319.69...

Have an upvote but hell i hope we get those guys and they drop everyone's ratings. Call us the #7 class or something then we can take these kids and go kick someones arse and not have to listen to the "#1" class BS. I like who we got coming in. Who gives a flip what 247 or those folks rank us.

I get where you're coming from, but at the same time, last year's #3 class helped this year's #1, and we're already in the catbird seat for 2019, so long as we show that we can continue to handle our business. Success breeds success - on the field and the recruiting trail.

And Nicolas Petit-Freere got abused in the game and jumped up from a mid 4 star to 5 star.

To be fair, Petit-Frere actually dropped in their rankings.

He was #5 overall and is now #9.

As I said... I don't care terribly, but it does seem to point out what we all implicitly understood to begin with... recruiting rankings are a business first, and a rating system second.

Another poster elsewhere did the math:

quote:

To Have a little fun with this I looked at UGA, BAMA, OSU, and Clemson. Found out their total commits in the Top247 and found their net movement.

UGA = -89

As most have noted only one player moved up and that was Salyer (+4) - UGA has a total of 12 players ranked in the Top247

Bama = +348

Wow....... Bama has 13 total players in the Top247 - 8 moved up, 5 moved down. 5 players improved +20 spots, while 3 players improved +70 spots. Their largest increase was +148

Clemson = +127

Clemson has 9 total Players in the Top 247

Ohio St. = +193

Ohio St has a whopping 17 players in the Top247 - 14 of them in the top 134 (CRAZY) 13 of their players dropped (Not very much per player) and 4 of their players had large increases.

Make what you will from this info....... Still no UGA bump LOL

247ports is a combined 2464 spots lower on our recruits than compared to the composite rankings.

Only three recruits total have a higher ranking on 247sports than the composite - Tindall +73, Ojulari +53, and Condon +75.

Two recruits have the same ranking - Fields and Salyer.

Sixteen recruits have a higher ranking on the composite than 247. Ranking differences beyond the Top247 players already discussed today include Ericson -133, Wilson -284, Joseph -145, Smith -74, Fitzpatrick -346, Davis -227, Walthour -90, and Camarda -1051.

From a 247 poster. That's over 100 spots lower per commit. I've never been a ranking conspiracy guy, but that seems highly questionable. It's not like any of our guys are under the radar.

It's why recruiting rankings are bullshite. You certainly want to be near the top, but I can't take them too seriously. They're all about creating drama. There's no reason that makes any sense for dropping James Cook, who absolutely dominated the AA game.

Well, to us diehard recruiting rankings don't mean all that, the are important but not the be all end all, but to future classes, some of these kids dig this shite, might help make a decision one way or the other which team has the previous number 1 recruiting class.

Think there some shenanigans going on with some of these sites

Just a guess but maybe at the end of the ranking period rankings tend narrow somewhat. I haven't followed rankings enough to know.

I am a big stats guy and found some things really strange about some of our top players in the 18 class.

1. All three services love Justin Fields. ESPN has him as their top prospect. Rivals and 247 have him as second.
2. Rivals and 247 have Jamaree in top 10 and ESPN has him as 28th ranked player.
3. 247 ranks Cade Mays as a 4 star prospect 61st overall and Brenton Cox as a 4 star 60th overall. Rivals and ESPN are much higher which is why they are composite 5 stars
4. ESPN ranks Adam Anderson the 57th rank prospect but his composite ranking is 17th in country.
5. Trey Hill is 27th, a spot higher than Jamaree on ESPN but is 41st on composite.
6. Channing Tindall is a 5 star prospect 23 Overall on 247 but 4 star 96th overall on composite
7. James Cook highest ranking 5 star 18th by Rivals and lowest is 4 star 96th overall by 247.
8. ESPN rates Kearis Jackson the 26th overall player and composite rates him as the 209th.

UGA has 8 five star players as rated by some service. 6 composite 5 stars. Channing Tindall is a 247 5 Star and Cook is a Rivals 5 Star. Trey Hill and Kearis Jackson are ranked 26th and 27th by ESPN.

If we close with Campbell and Walker, 10 5 stars as rated by some service!
