Barton Simmons posted this about him:
quote:
Top100 offensive tackle Max Wray out of Franklin (Tenn.) High School has decommitted from Georgia. 247Sports confirmed the decommitment with Max's father, Sam Wray, on Friday afternoon.
The decision comes after Max, along with his younger brother Jake Wray and his parents, took an unofficial visit to Alabama and spent the day with Nick Saban and the Alabama staff. Wray followed that visit up with a Friday trip to Clemson to meet with Dabo Swinney.
Currently ranked as the No. 4 offensive tackle in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Wray had been committed to Georgia since March of 2016. The decision to back off that pledge, according to his father, comes in an effort evaluate every program pursuing him to determine the best opportunity to to achieve his ultimate goal of playing offensive tackle in the NFL.
That's certainly an attainable goal to reach. The 6-foot-6, 287-pounder has already accepted an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and he's emerged as one of the top priorities across the country at offensive line for a slew of powerhouse programs. In particular, Wray has been a personal priority for Nick Saban in recent weeks. In addition to the Alabama and Clemson visits, Wray plans to take trips to Texas, Tennessee and LSU during his spring break in two weeks.
He just CB'd Wray to Alabama as well. I didn't even know Alabama was pushing for him to be honest. After the OT haul we landed last year most of us assumed we weren't getting an elite guy this class.

Wow..smh.
"Committed meant exactly that. The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder unfollowed the coaches that had been wooing him on Twitter. That was their only outlet to a prospect in the Class of 2018.
He was so Georgia. He didn’t need them.
“There’s really not an opening in my recruitment,” Wray said. “I’m not going to go anywhere else. I’m not going to talk to other coaches. Georgia is all that is on my mind.”
He gave all those non-Georgia shirts to his younger brother. Jake, a freshman offensive lineman, is already 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds in his own right. He’s another nasty tackle, too.
Max Wray held that block even when Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin visited Franklin High this spring. He made sure his coach knew he wasn’t even interested in mighty Alabama."
Recruiting is a fickle beast..until that ink dries on the LOI it's not over. Maybe Pittman can sway him back into the fold?

I think he sees the 2 bookend tackles we have ahead of him for the next 3-4 years.

Well Leatherwood is going to lock a tackle spot down at Bama so it's not any better
Posted on 3/10/17 at 6:44 pm to LedDawgK
Alabama actually signed three 5-star tackles in the Class of 2017 (not all were Composite 5-stars).
Leatherwood
Jedrick Wills
Elliot Baker (JUCO)

We need to get him back on campus and let Pittman do work.
Long way to go until signing day.

Apparently Jamaree is heading to Clemson again for another visit

Bama gets who bama wants. Long way to national signing day, but it's hard to argue success at bama.
They sign as many ol as we did so that's not it

Comments by the Wray family makes it sound like they didn't expect his recruitment to blow up like it has so they're taking a step back to reevaluate some things.

I'm not worried. Plenty of time to gain a recommitment.

Not too concerned with an OT right now. If we can secure Hill and Salyer, we'll find that 3rd OL.

Picked up some big time Zamir White CB's from Bartow and Wiltfong. TigerNet.com has "inside sources" claiming that Kirby is openly paying players. Talk about delusional

If he ends up having a top 5 2018 class, they will defiantly be thinking he is paying recruits

They will definitely think that.
