Our entire athletic department has been dwindling ever since McGarity took over. Tennis sucks. Gymnastics suck... baseball and basketball continue to suck.

Baseball pisses me off more than basketball because we have a national championship, and were a top 10ish program for most of the 2000s.

It doesnt take a great coach for this program to be good. There is so much talent in the state of Georgia that the program can almost recruit itself. Just need a coach to not hinder them.

Gordon Beckham, Kyle Farmer, Josh Fields, Alex Wood, Justin Grimm, Mitchell Boggs, Clint Sammons. All guys that played for Perno that have made the majors. Who knows if or when Stricklin will have a guy get drafted and make the majors.

Is Men’s Tennis sucking this year? They were supposed to be great considering they brought everyone back from last years final 4 squad

They're not great. Also, the Final 4 is potentially misleading because we weren't seeded super high. Just beat a couple teams better than us to get to the Final 4. Think it was also played in Athens which couldn't hurt.

Men’s tennis lost 2 of 3 during indoors and just got swept this past weekend in the conference openers to Florida and South Carolina.

We don't suck. We're just not as good as we normally are.

Charleston Southern just scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat us, and while it wasn't on TV, the sequence of events posted by the Georgia Baseball Twitter indicate we should just burn it down. I'll try to summarize:

Error
Base hit
Strikeout
Base hit (1st run, unearned)
We get their runner in a run down, can't get the tag, counts as stolen base.
Walk
Fielder's choice (2nd run)
Walk
Base hit?, it wasn't specific there (3rd run)
Hit by pitch (4th and game winning run)

Got to give it to Stricklin. It only took 12 games for me to totally give up on the season. Thats a record.

Yeah im off the bandwagon too. All there is now is to look forward to free giveaways and stealing a series from a better program. Oh, and maybe actually firing a coach that hasn’t had a winning season in 5 years

Had to read back to catch what you were talking about... baseball thread > "we don't suck"... did not compute.

It is the inability to throw strikes that is so frustrating, and plunking a guy to push in the game winner.

They will not be able to score enough runs to overcome that, particularly with very little power in the lineup. I think we had something like 14 singles and a grand slam in the game against the Citadel.

That said, Smith had a good outing out of the pen with 5 ks in 2.1 innings, Meadows with the aforementioned grand slam and Schunk had a little league type stat line- 2 for 4 at the plate, 3 runs scored, then set down 8 straight to end the game with 4 strikeouts. Then again, it was the Citadel

So for some reason Aaron Schunk, who has like 3 innings of collegiate pitching experience, has been named our closer a week out from SEC play. Seems to be another reactionary and emotional move by Stricklin after a rough weekend.

Double header tomorrow against Toledo in advance of rain on Sunday.

Adkins had a perfect game through 5.1 innings tonight before ump blew a strikeout-turned-walk.

Where did you read that he is the closer? He finished the Citadel game because he was throwing strikes and getting outs. Something the rest of the pen failed to do the day before. Strickland also pointed out he was aided by the setting sun. Didn't sound like an annointment to closer to me.

That said, Schunk would be pitching more if he wasn't playing 3rd everyday.

In an interview on Rivals, here's a snippet:
quote:

With one weekend to go before the start of SEC play, Georgia skipper Scott Stricklin is shaking up his pitching staff.

Not only will the starting rotation for the three-game series starting Friday against Toledo feature a different look, but third baseman Aaron Schunk is set to take over as the team’s closer.

“Coach Stricklin always talked about being a two-way guy, and how being versatile gives you an opportunity to do a lot of things on the field,” Schunk said before practice on Thursday. “Ever since this summer I’ve been in a program to keep my arm in shape and be able to throw any amount that I need to, whether it be one batter or a couple of innings and be ready for anything that’s thrown my way.”

The Bulldogs (8-5) certainly hope the move to Schunk provides some stability to the backend of the bullpen.

Senior Blake Cairnes (0-0, 5.14) so far hasn’t been as consistent as hoped, and while Zac Kristofak (1-0, 0.00, 1 save) has impressed, the decision was made to go with Schunk at closer after the sophomore struck out four batters in 2.2 innings.

“We’ve always really liked Aaron on the mound, the tough thing has been taking him off third base,” Stricklin said. “Now that we’ve got more depth on our team we can make some more moves and do some more things.”

Stricklin added he believes Schunk is well-suited for his new role.

“He’s a confident kid, he’s really athletic and in the eighth inning you’re going to get in situations where people are going to bunt, people are going to do some things on you,” he said. “He fields his position very well, he’s got a calm demeanor to him and on top of that his stuff is really good. He’s 89-91, he throws four pitches for strikes, he holds runners and does all those things you need him to do.”
