There were rumors that he currently was not with the team. Never heard if it was discipline, grades, or injury.

Both ILB spots are probably wide open. If Natrez does return next year, is it possible that he ends up like Ledbetter in 2016 and misses 1/3 of the season due to the off-field stuff? I'd imagine Rice, Taylor, McBride and Crowder are the top 4 in that group.

I think Walker is more likely to play JACK. He would be on the field more often as our best pass rusher and most experienced OLB coming back.

Not sure how he fits in on the depth chart, but Michael Barnett is a returning DL (JR) who played in 12 games this year.

Solid work with this projection. I'm not used to the football team being this deep across the board.

It may be just me, but I would change the RB depth chart a little until we know White is 100%
RB-Swift, Holyfield, Herrien, White, Cook

I like your LG for the start of the season, but think Salyer or Netori takes over at LG. (I think it is Netori and they RS Slayer, personally, but it is a guess)

I also think Patrick will be gone and one of our younger guys steps in there. (Again a guess)

I would be surprised to see Webb starting at CB. If we sign Tyson Campbell as expected, i think he has a shot there.

That is just speculation on my part. It really looks good, though.

Netori could push for playing time, but Salyer won't be redshirted. He will likely be a day one starter barring injury.

Corner is tough to project. At this point I expect Baker to declare for the draft. None of the returning guys have shown enough to feel like they have a spot locked down. Probabaly the most wide open spot on the team

Salyer is too good to redshirt IMO. I think he’s a 3 year starter who gets drafted in the 1st round when he declares early.

I expect him to be our #1 CB.

If Baker stays i expect him to be our #1 CB, but I do agree with you that Webb has the chance to be really good.

You MIGHT be right. But we thought the same about Isaiah Wilson, too. It is not a bad thing to RS OLinemen when possible to allow their bodies to grow and build muscle in a college S&C program. Not saying you are wrong and I am right. Like I said...I am only spitballing.

I tend to agree, but hope he comes back. If he goes, then I could easily see Campbell locking down a corner spot.

Could be. Did he play corner in high school? If so, he could have the experience and the move would not be as big a deal as I am thinking. If he did not, it is a big jump from WR to corner. Bigger difference than many think.

ETA
I should preface this by saying i have not seen him practice at corner, so it would not surprise me one bit to be wrong here.

Agree on Webb starting. CB1 if Baker goes pro. Campbell would have a chance to start as a freshman if we get him.

Salyer will probably start game 1 barring injury. He's a different level of player from Netori, etc.

ETA: I also think Tindall and Cox have a shot to play a ton. Quay Walker if we get him.

Think some of us (myself included) thought that when he committed because he was so highly ranked, but it was always going to be a huge adjustment coming down from NY prep football. Thomas was also so good we were able to redshirt Wilson.

Salyer’s game is already college ready like Thomas IMO.

No doubt he showed out at the Army game practices, so you might be right....you probably are.

Jake Rowe (247) has said that he's been extremely impressed with Webb in practice and heard behind the scenes that coaches think he's going to be really good. He's big, fast, and has very long arms.

Yeah, I have heard that. I guess my question is, what does "he's going to be really, really good" mean? Does it mean he is ready, or in a year or so he will be really, really good?

I'm not arguing against him. He might be ready right now. I hope he is. I have played both positions, though, and they are really, really different. The both require, balance, speed and quickness.....but CB also requires great hips, and being able to back peddal and other things WR does not require. Not to mention matching what a WR does. There is a difference in knowing where you are running a route, and matching where a WR is running.

Hopefully he is ready and my fears are just that. Unfounded fears.

FWIW, he played both ways in HS, he was just rated as a higher WR prospect as I think that's where he'd spent more playing time. As to the performance and where he's "at"... if he had been "there", I feel like Kirby would have put him in... but spring/summer practice should tell us a lot.

Does Nauta stick around? I figured he'd tag along with Eason.

Any kind of experience he had in HS will help. he isn't starting from scratch. That's good to hear.

This exactly. This will be a big spring for him. I do hope that we can keep baker and sign Campbell. That would give us more depth at a needed position.

Fibonocci is right. Nauta stays. I think he got a wake up call this year, and will put in the needed work to become the go to guy at TE. But, he isn't going to follow Eason to Washington.
