It's going to a be slobber knocker that's for sure. If second half UGA from the Rose Bowl shows up, Bama is in trouble.

Punter (tossup maybe)

Alabama opponents netted a total of five yards on Alabama punts this season. A punt return wasn’t attempted against Alabama until the 8th game. Scott is the best punter in the country.

Net Punting - 2017

Georgia - 5th nationally - 42.27 yards, 63 return yards on 55 kicks...
Alabama - 28th nationally - 39.80 yards, 5 return yards on 49 kicks...

Bama's punter is really fricking good... the emphasis has been on hang time though due to significantly better field position than your opponents (see some of my posts through the season on the SECr where I nerd out on the "Five Factors" stats and discuss with SummerOfGeorge). UGA has actually needed Niazalek to flip the field much more often. I think it's fair to say they are similar caliber talents... enough to say "tossup maybe" at least.

Scott is not better than Michael Dickson (Texas' punter), and it's so ignorant when Alabama fans keep saying that.

Scott is really good, but he's not the best punter in the country.

Pussy **** Auburn fans saying they will cheer for Bama just illegitimatizes all claims that the Iron Bowl is the fiercest rivalry in sports.

The past few days I have been celebrating this past weekend with both UGA and Bama friends. Everyone is just excited that Auburn manages to beat us both and yet we make it to the NCG.

Meanwhile, Auburn just lost to a kid with one arm and laughed it off on the sideline.

23-21 UGA in what will be one of the most boring games of all time for outsiders besides the 9-6 Bama/LSU rocket race.

I think what bodes well in this game is UGA's proficiency in the short and intermediate passing game. Fromm's decision-making and composure in the SECCG and Rose Bowl impressed me immensely.

If you're gonna beat Bama, you can't get behind the chains. Bama's stout front seven is going to stifle UGA's ground game early on, and so Fromm is going to need to convert some 3rd-and-7s and 3rd-and-8s. If he can keep the chains moving early, that will be a very good sign.

Offensively, the key for UGA is the o-line giving Fromm enough time in the pocket early on. If they can keep the pass rush at bay, I'm confident that Fromm will be able to make the throws and keep the chains moving. That's a tall order against Bama's front seven though. And what's more...Saban is going to send more guys than UGA can block on those 3rd-and-medium and 3rd-and-long situations. Fromm needs to stay calm and make the throw. I hope they are working a lot on those situations in practice.

Defensively, UGA just needs to play their game and contain Hurts. Don't let him break free for any cheap first down scrambles when UGA has Bama in 3rd down situations.

If all of the above happen, I think UGA can win this one by 10 points. Something like 27-17 or 24-14.

If not, I'll be concerned about the outcome.

I think we use the same offensive game plan against Bama that we did against Auburn. Quick throws and tosses to the edges and make their line run sideline to sideline. Fromm needs to do what Fromm does - keep the drive alive and keep them honest.

Defensively, same plan that we used against MS State and ND. Put Hurts in a box, stop the run and make him throw it. Some pressure would be nice.

All in all I think both teams will be fighting for first downs and field position with UGA edging it out in the 4th.

UGA - 26
Bama - 21

We absolutely CANNOT turn the ball over or lose the special teams battle - to me that is the key to the game. If we are neutral / at an advantage in those two categories we will win a tight one. Bama beat Clemson by playing conservative, mistake free football on offense and taking advantage of Clemson's offensive miscues. We will dust off our offensive game plan we used against Auburn in the SECCG and have some success moving the ball in spurts.

He has a better career average, so what makes it ignorant?

I take that as a great compliment. Firewind was frequently right. Often being correct doesn't equal being popular.

WTF? Firewind predicted a UGA natty every year except the one year we actually have a chance to win one.

So you are saying Fromm should have won the Heisman and is a better QB than Mayfield?

I said all things being equal. The Oklahoma defense was beyond bad. Like I said, had they had a "decent" SEC defense, we would have been blown out.

Alabama will be fully capable of stuffing our run and forcing Fromm into third and longs under big time pressure. This could get ugly unless Fromm plays like Tom Brady.

This game concerns me because of the emotional expense from the Rose Bowl. Might be hard to get the team off the high and refocused in just a week.

Just give 'em the speech that Herb Brooks gave the '80 Olympic team before the gold medal game against Finland:

"If you lose this game, you'll take it to your frickin' graves." *turn away* *pause* *turn back* "Your frickin' graves."
