How the frick is that not against some rule??
Why would it be? how is it different than coaches flying to a school and landing on the field in a helicopter, or flying to see recruits in a private jet?
It's a different form of transportation.
ND figures they will show him how much they want him, and this is the way they did it.
Maybe I am missing something? (I have been known to not get the point!)

I think in this case you did. The free stuff inside the truck for the school is what was being referred to, not the truck itself.

FYI Demetris Robertson's brother is shitting on our parade again:

Robertson is set to take an official visit to Georgia Tech this weekend, but reports surfaced on Wednesday that the family also plans to take a visit to Georgia on Feb. 6 — the weekend after Feb. 3's National Signing Day Carlos Robertson explained that's not exactly the case.
“[That visit] is still pretty much up in the air," he said. "It’s not really set in stone quite yet.”

Why would it be?
Seems like the question is: "What's in the truck?"
If you're giving things away, seems like it should be a no go, regardless of whether it's to the individual or indirectly through their school. If it's just some type of fun/entertaining thing to do/see, then just a game well played.

I did misunderstand, then. I had no idea they were giving equipment to his school. Now that IS shady! Thanks Led for pointing me in the right direction.

This is the way I was taking it. They drove the big impressive ND truck to his neighborhood to make a big splash and be an advertisement. It impresses the kid...impresses the neighborhood (and let's face it.....what do you think the people that live all around him will be talking about well past signing day?)
Works only if you re taking the truck a long way. (the longer the distance, the more impressive to the recruit)

If they weren't giving away what's in the truck I think they could have just done what you're saying with a bus. A truck means there's cargo. And DRob even says ND is hooking his school up.
I just don't get how that not a violation.

Some possible info on the Brown situation. Sounds like he's put himself in a tight spot which is all but ruling us out:
quote:
Post was from the guy who was dialed in with Roquan's situation last year. Guy was very clear that he didn't have info, but he posted a screenshot from another site with info from someone claiming to know Derrick very well.
The gist of it was as follows.
He got paid, Bama offered a lot of money for him to not take any more visits, Auburn offered a boat load more, his Aunt is causing trouble in the family because she doesn't think they should stoop that low

That's a shame
Hope he goes to Bama over AU and UT though.

Is there a rulebreaking situation, or is that just background info on why we are out of the race?

this has gotten weird. I firmly believe we are out of it at this point, but it sure is titillating to watch it unfold.

An 18 wheeler is MUCH more impressive, though, don't you think?

Not necessarily. 18 wheelers are driven all the time no cargo. BUT, I can see where people would think what they are thinking. I also believe if his school shows up with all new equipment next year, it would be awfully easy to trace back to where it came from. I mean, all you would have to do is ask for a receipt, then go back to the manufacturer/retailer.

If they are giving his school equipment, then I thik it would be a violation.

His brother sounds like he's either dirty as heck or dumb as heck. Maybe both.

Derrick Brown situation is starting to grind my gears. The recruiting services are making this into a soap opera.
Give me Michail Carter and I'll call it a day.
Brown would be terrific, but its getting annoying.

I think the truck is empty, and it's just a flashy way to roll into Savannah. No way ND would be that blatant about giving merch away.

LOL what a gimmick.
It would be a huge gimmick, if what I am saying is true....and I am only guessing. but think about it. Want to make a splash like landing a helicopter at a kids school? An 18 wheeler driven from Indiana with ND plastered all over it would be advertisement that can't be bought.
Again...I m only guessing, but I was surprised when Saban (Or whoever it was) landed a helicopter at a kids school.
