If it weren't for Floyd that class would be a total bust. Although a couple of the guys who we still have could be good next year(Carter and Mauger).

Reggie Davis is/will contribute
John Atkins will contribute probably
Kublanow is turning into a good one
Ramsey, while not contributing in the way we thought, did a heckuva job punting
Kimbrough is contributing
Belamy is poised to contrbute big in the coming season
Brendan Douglas has contributed

So, it wasn't a horrible class...just maybe not what we expected. Might be a littel extreme to call it a total bust, though.

Worst class in modern UGA history most likely. It's even worse when you consider Floyd and Atkins originally signed in 2012 and spent a year at Hargrave.

Kublanow is ok.
Davis only plays because the rest of our receivers aren't any good.
Ramsey was downgraded from a high 4* QB to a punter. No way to spin that.
Kimbrough is a useful piece.
Bellamy is that class' best player by far. Really has become a good player.
Douglas is terrible.
Reggie Carter is also a reasonable contributor.
Mauger is a heady safety despite his physical limitations.

Toby Johnson also helped while he was here.

Those are your contributors. Out of 34 signees. No way to say that's even close to what we need to be signing. That class is why we played so many freshmen, and our depth sucks.

ETA: It's without a doubt the class that sunk Richt. He had momentum after 2012 and followed it up with a dud. Special acknowledgement to Tony Ball, Todd Grantham, Scott Lakatos, and Kirk Olivadotti.

Not totally disagreeing. Just felt "total bust" was a bit extreme.

I didn't remember that Floyd went to Hargrave. Memory going on me fast!

With the exception of Ball, what an awful staff.

I think it's fair to point at that class as if not the mortal wound that eventually killed Richt's tenure, a major contributing factor. In this day and age, you can't afford what was essentially a self-imposed recruiting ban like that.

Richt had a lot of strengths but of all the weaknesses he had, Roster management was far and away the one that did him in

The 2013 fiasco will continue to hurt the Dawgs again this year, IMO.

Anyways, let's hope we can pull some more electric talent like Brown, Hardman, Price, etc.

I'll give you Kublanow, Belamy and Kimbrough. They all have chances to really step up this season.

However, I have no hope for Davis or Atkins. Ramsey, while doing a good job punting, is still considered a bust to me for going from QB to punter

Douglas has contributed simply because he has had to. Between Chubb, Michel, Holyfield, Crowder and maybe Turman(big question mark), I truly doubt he will see the field.

I wish it had panned out for more players, but between the busts and transfer, I gotta agree with Crow and say this could be one of the worst classes UGA has for a long time.

On that note, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 classes will bring Natty's home

Just thinking about it. Pruitt got gifted this recruiting class. Probably ends with Mack, Ben, Shyheim, and God knows who else. Bama has the easiest recruiting pitch of all time. "Want to win 2-3 titles if you come to Tuscaloosa?"

Only easy because nobody else has been able to offer the same pitch.

"Want to sit behind other 5 stars who have already gotten time on the field, scratch and claw your way to getting on the field, only to possibly be grey shirted or processed?"

It's just as easy to pitch that the opposite direction, but hard to argue with the results. To be fair, on the defensive side of the ball, they've done a good job of rotating guys in getting them meaningful snaps earlier on. I'd assume part of that though was Kirby, so that should be a win in his column, rather than solely Bama.

The odd thing is, all of these kids feel like they're so good, they'll just rise to the top, so the realism doesn't really resonate in many cases unless the parents are level headed enough to see it.

It's not that easy.
They have a process. Come in, practice well, Play a backup role for about 2 years. Play your junior year. Play well. Get Drafted. Rinse Repeat all while winning championships.

As I mentioned, they do a good job rotating young guys in on the defensive side of the ball. Can't say I've paid enough attention but don't recall a ton of meaningful snaps for many young offensive players on the other hand.

I don't disagree, that they have an answer. But if you have to answer "play a backup role for 2 years", you should miss more often than you hit.

It's a winning formula. You get hardware, you get trained, and eventually you get exposure. And so long as Saban is there, those three things are all but guaranteed at this point

Ya but thats true whether you win championships or not. Floyd will prob go first round this year and we didn't sniff a championship.

IMO its all about coaching...we had a metric shite ton of NFL defensive talent in 2012 where we didn't even win the SEC..

its coaching. Thats what I want Smart to bring to UGA...the coaching. Richt even admitted once he went to Miami that he wanted to get back to his roots as a playcaller and QB developer...pisses me the frick offhe was so hands off his last few seasons here.
