He's a national guy. He'll usually be pretty well connected with a few big guys but, ultimately, it's the regional and team guys you want to pay attention to. For example, Simmons followed Ryan Bartow's (who has an iffy history) lead on the ROquan thing, switched his CB to UCLA, and was very quickly debunked by multiple recruiting reporters who said that Roquan did not commit to UCLA silently or otherwise. At this point in the game, Barton is just doing what his bosses tell him and is trying to make things seem intriguing leading to Wednesday.

Eternal Dawg optimism showing, but lets remember- when it comes to all these "Roquan to UCLA" CBs, these are often folks throwing mud against the wall who have no intel, nor skin in the game. Aren't they locked out of picking for him if they don't Crystal Ball him SOMEWHERE before he commits/signs?

There is something about the manner in which we recruit and the kids we committ. We have never been the team that lands a few big timers on NSD (outside of the dream team class). No matter how convinced guys on this board proclaim "so and so is a done deal" I just won't believe it any longer. At this stage simply signing our current committs will be a win imo. Sux, but that's my observation.

Not saying they don't have any info but they're all a long away from Montezuma Ga...

Barton Simmons is the onyl one that is even remotely respectable among those 8. The rest are no name "recruiting reporters" and mods for Michigan State, Notre Dame, etc. Nobody from UCLA, UGA, or Michigan.

Maybe...a lot of the guys that CB'ed him today have nothing to do with either program (UGA or UCLA), and I don't believe Roquan has had any interest in their respective programs they cover.

There's a lot more to "recruiting analysis" than just getting it right. The "analysts" have a long track record of trying to affect outcomes. At this late point in the game, there a lots of reasons why an "analyst" might want to nudge momentum one direction or another. Even if doesn't directly affect his favorite team, it might do so indirectly by influencing another recruit's thought process. If you watch this game over many years, you'll see it happen repeatedly, and you'll start to recognize which ones do it most often and most blatantly.

The only story that has any substantive legs at this point is Slayton to Auburn, IMO. Everything else looks like gamesmanship by teams and writers. Even if Smith had given a "silent commit" to UCLA (and that has apparently been denied by others close to Smith), why would someone at UCLA leak it to the services? Obviously the story itself creates perceived advantage to someone. And also obviously, it wasn't leaked to 8 people simultaneously, which means that the others are making their forecast based on innuendo or some other perceived advantage.

If Rusty or Jake and then a UCLA guy switch their CBs, then I'll be worried. Rusty is very plugged into Smith's recruitment and knows probably more about it than any other analysts at 247.

I'd even be skeptical of a prediction from the UCLA guys. I haven't followed Roquan Smith's recruitment, but I read that his parents didn't go with him to LA. It seems like a long shot that he'd commit to a school that far away based on a last weekend visit. Stranger things have happened, but my guess is he'll pick Georgia.

Exactly. Who cares what an inferior school such as Auburn thinks? Let them laugh, UGA will continue to kick their arse on the field.

They always make a big show of poking at Georgia, and then CMR beats them down so bad their team practically quits on the field. They call Georgia THUGA because our players face tough discipline when they break the rules, meanwhile theirs skate past the law until something horrible happens. 2014 was another Auburn team that had a bad attitude and, from what I've read, discipline played a part this time too. Maybe Muschamp will right the ship, we'll see.

Well, since they're lurking, I wouldn't mind laughing a little bit.
