I honestly think he would have built a monster by now. He understood process and trench warfare.

He had a chance to stay if he would have hired an OC.
He made the choice for us.
And a lot of why we like him is revisionist history based around two players (Mike and JFF) that he had to be convinced to give an offer to.

A lot of that had to do with conditioning. Doubt Sherman would have changed his approach though.

With all the 4th quarter collapses it seems like we still have conditioning issues.

I know It was bad, but I believe he realized it and was in the process of making it better.
Besides, we needed lighter guys to compensate for air raid spreads. I don't think our run d was as bad relative to our peers as it is now.

We would be similar to Arkansas under Bielema IMO. I don't see how that's better and I think anyone that is thinking rationally would agree

Actually I think that is why Sherman was so upset we fired him. He had finally built up a team that could win big, and we gave up a shite load of big games because we lacked the physical conditioning to keep up. He realized this and wanted to implement a new S&C program, but we fired him.
who knows if it would have made a difference, just saying i've always believed he thought he could fix the problem.

Refused to hire an OC so he could actually focus on the entire game instead of just his stupid playcard.

Similar in the run game, but with a more effective passing game due to some good skill players on the receiving corps. Sherman had some decent offenses (Last one ending up #7 in the nation). Bret can't say the same. Sherman's ultimate fall was second half game planning and conditioning. His defense was slowly coming around (2012 was proof of that) but his teams always ran out of gas against the uptempo.

The run?? We were fine against the run. We were horrible in the secondary. All of those huge leads we blew at halftime were from our horrible secondary.
In 2012 we had the best offensive line in the SEC and our defensive line led by Nealy was pretty good. Our pass defense sucked as evidenced by Lat Tech putting up 50 on us. Same shite as in 2011.

If you want to discuss 2012 you need to discuss 2013 as well, which was also all Sherman recruits
We went 6-6 in the Big 12 in his final year. Our best season under him was 9-4, which may very well be what we finish this year. I am not happy about what happened Saturday but this thread is really dumb.

Sherman went 25-25 at A&M. 15-18 in conference.

I am only commenting on the talent on the line of scrimmage of Sherman vs Sumlin. No one forced you into this "dumb" thread. You jumped in all on your own.
I don't think Sherman is/was the answer but not recognizing he recruited the line of scrimmage well is definitely dumber than anything in this thread.

Franchione bombing did not mean that firing Slocum wasn't the right move.
Sumlin (to all appearances) failing does not mean that canning Sherman wasn't the right move.
Slocum, Franchione, Sherman, Sumlin (assuming he finishes as expected)... none of guys were the answer. They all had four years plus to prove themselves. At a certain point, you are what your record says you are.

He definitely didn't recruit the line of scrimmage on defense better. Who was the best front 7 player we signed under him? Damontre Moore? Tony Jerod Eddie? The rush D that finished 114 or whatever in the country in 2013 was all his players.

Sumlin meltdowns didn't have shite on Sherman's meltdowns. 2011 was such a joke of a season.
