Report from the first day of fall practice says he was running routes with the tight ends

With calzada and King fighting for playing time this year, maybe he just wants to get on the field this season. Like when Tannehill played receiver

Not the biggest surprise. Terrific athlete pre injury but was an interesting take as a QB. Not to mention he will most likely have to fight off better qb prospects, imo, with weigman and Holstein when its time to take over for king
Believe he was the one who requested the move

Yeah but Tannehill had over 100 receptions in the 2 years before moving back to QB.
What is Stowers going to be, the 4th string TE?

It feels like your 3rd and last scholarship QB moving to a position that he's never played and doesn't really need bodies is quite a surprise.
If we rewound the clock to the 2021 signing class and didn't sign a QB with only 2 guys on campus, everyone would be wondering what the hell Fisher is thinking. And now that's basically the situation we've put ourselves in. Obviously Fisher knows the QB situation well enough to make such a move, but it seems more like a big miss in recruiting that a savy roster move.

We are pretty thin at TE honestly when you consider Cupp and Smith’s health history. I agree with you, it’s surprising because you’d expect him to fail at QB first. But it’s definitely a position we need quality depth at

The move was Stowers' idea. It doesn't mean he's done at QB.

taking stowers early was a weird take. im just not surprised hes moved off qb. but fair enough over the surprise on how quickly it happened cause thats true. didnt expect it to happen this fast

Does this make us take a second QB in 2022? If we have a QB portal out this year, we could be in a horrible spot in a hurry.

Nah, we still have the transfer Daniels who looked pretty good in the Spring. I've always thought that Stowers would transfer out eventually, but I'm rooting for him at TE. Great athlete

Strike that on Jimbo understanding the QB situation

2 scholarship QBs didn't work in 2021, in my opinion.
With Calzada transferring, does Jimbo roll with the dice again in 2022 with just 2 scholarships QBs? Does he sign Bo Nix or Max Johnson to compete for the starting job?

Nix is going to want a clear path to a starting job I would think which we don’t have. I’m fine with bringing Johnson in as long as he understands it’s as a backup. He’s a definite upgrade over Calzada if you’re just swapping them out and hopefully King is healthy or Weigman grabs the job

Any word on the bowl game starter? Is King a possibility?

King practiced yesterday and as of now is looking like the starter.
247 poster just said all these players are out for the bowl game on offense, some due to injury.

Johnson also has a younger brother whose a highly rated TE in the 2022 class, so that would be a huge positive to bringing in Johnson.
But yes, I'd only want him on the condition that he doesn't get in the way of the two younger guys.
