You do realize that Texas independence was fought for by many South Carolina natives? They wanted to get the hell out of South Carolina as quickly as possible.

Well God knows Texas wasn't winning that war without our help.

True fact, the SC flag was the first to fly over Mexico City.

You're welcome.

You know who the native Texans were right?

The Spanish and the natives made babies and called them Mexicans. The Mexicans won their freedom from Spain. They owned Texas but couldn't settle it because of the Indians. The Spanish already had a deal with the US to help settle it (see Mr. Stephen F Austin). Texas is basically Americans who wanted more. They went and found it and took it in Texas. If Tennessee, South Carolina, etc were good enough for them they would have never left. As Davy Crockett said and I'm paraphrasing here but "You can go to hell. I will go to Texas".

I'm not talking about settlers, fool. I'm talking about soldiers that fought in the Mexican-American War and then came home...what do you think would have happened to TX if the US had lost that war?

No doubt, TX was so great its pleas for annexation were rejected by the US for year.

Because the US wanted Texas to join the same way the other states did (aka be a territory first) and Texas said frick that.

End result- Texas is only expansion state that had state status from the start.

Sounds more to me like the US said frick that and left TX hanging.

quote:

Presented with a formal annexation proposal from Texas minister Memucan Hunt, Jr. in August 1837, Van Buren summarily rejected it.[45] Annexation resolutions presented separately in each house of Congress were either soundly defeated or tabled through filibuster. After the election of 1838, new Texas president Mirabeau B. Lamar withdrew his republic's offer of annexation due to these failures.[46] Texans were at an annexation impasse when John Tyler entered the White House in 1841.
