gonna develop some bad habits. Players gonna just jack up anything because we get every board

Vila looks like one of those annoying white guys. I love it. Is he playing the 2?
Posted on 11/11/16 at 8:28 pm to tmc94
I think so. At least he's picking up northwestern states 2 guard

vila is going to be a pleasant surprise, especially when the nerves settle down and he starts hitting open shots

I know it's just game 1, but this kind of team is built to win the games they should. The only way to beat us with sub-optimal talent is to be unconscious from 3.

yeah it would be pretty hard to have a bad loss with this team. We get every rebound against bad teams
Loving Vila playing the Caruso role and pushing the ball down the floor every time he gets it. Point-Forward

Competition between #12 and #33 for which best fills the roll of requisite manic little white guy.

we've got a lot of talent. Tyler, TTM, and Williams gonna thump some folks this year and Miller is pretty nice depth.
Still worried about our guard play but we all knew this was a weakness. Lot of scoring punch though. I can definitely see multiple guys going off at times.
From the looks of it today, I definitely expect this is a tourney team. I was leaning to bubble but I don't think it'll be that close. Probably a 6-8ish seed.

My biggest takeaway from the game is I'm worried about our depth. Williams looks SOLID, but beyond that....Miller will be very good defensively but still has not cured his yips on offense and Villa could be good, but I didn't see much in his limited action. After that, we've got a lot of walk-on looking types.
I have full confidence in our starters though. Davis is still Davis, Gilder will be great again, Trocha looks to be even better, Hogg has a high ceiling and should be solid no matter what, and Hampton looks like he can do everything Collins did for us last year.
But as we've seen in the past, a solid starting 5 isn't enough, especially when our best player already has a lingering injury. Whether we make the tournament is completely up to our bench.

I know it was against a weak opponent, but I already prefer Gilder, Hampton, and Caleb Smith over Collins.

Not sure what you are looking for.
He definitely shot poorly and we have to hope that was just a bad game (supposedly he's really streaky) but in 21 minutes he had 5 boards and 3 assists, handled the ball a ton and didn't have a turnover. Most importantly, he didn't force things.
He's got some work to do on the defensive end still but his raw length playing the 2/3 should make him reasonably effective even with bad fundamentals at times. And that should improve.
So even if he doesn't shoot, he appears to me like he'll still provide quality minutes off the bench. And if his shot is falling, he looks like the kind of guy that can put up a 20 spot on a given night because he's such a matchup nightmare
