It is very simple. To win consistently you have to be able to run the ball and stop the run.
The meat of schedule in 2014 and 2015 was in the last part of the year. We could not stop the run and could not run the ball, thus we lost the games against the better teams on our schedule.
We have been exponentially better running the ball this year. We have been much better stopping the run. We got shredded on the ground today because we did not control the line of scrimmage and we apparently lost our ability to tackle. It is mystifying but I don't believe our defensive coaching staff is incompetent.

Hell, Roger, what does this even mean? You'd fire him right now.

I don't expect the team we saw today to show up again. If it does, hell they may not beat UTSA. Hopefully the "pressure" of #4 being relieved will get them back to playing good football. I don't consider today a coaching problem. The entire team sans Kirk was a shitshow.

Q: Who are you going to hire to replace him? Name somebody clearly better who is/will be available. If you can't, then you're just whining.
Moot question for me - no way he is getting fired.

Are you drunk?
Yeah, maybe a couple players could have a bad game, but all of them? You don't think that's on the coaches for not having them ready?

No, I really don't. All year long we've heard about our superior team leadership. That was nowhere to be found today. These aren't Jr. High kids. Coaches can't make players play hard. Our defense for much of the game looked like they were going through the motions. Our Kumbaya QB was just awful before his one good drive pulled us within 14. 14!!! What the hell? Kirk was an exception. Unfortunately the only one. A clear F for effort on both the O and the D.

That was the most alarming thing I picked up on in the first quarter. The body language. Even when it was a one score game, it looked terrible. Hadn't really seen that out of our defense all year--hell, one of the things I loved about this group was that they would get up even after moderately successful plays talking mad shite. Yeah, it was cocky. You NEED that arrogance to feed off of each other, especially when the team overall is struggling.
But we saw NONE of that today. With the exception of the requisite celebrations after the two picks, it was nonexistent. The worst part, is there was absolutely no reason for it. I mean, yeah, it's a drag to get up for an 11AM game on the road vs. a 3-5 opponent, but when you're getting your teeth kicked in and your manhood challenged, at SOME point that alpha dog aggressiveness has to kick in. Either a player or a coach HAS to step up and bring it back.
But we just laid down like some dogs today. With everything to play for in just having been gifted a #4 ranking. I can understand a team coming out flat. I can understand a team with nothing to play for after a spate of bad losses.
I'll never understand what I saw today.

An 11am game at Mississippi St. 2 years ago started our downfall that season.
Coincidence? I think not.

LES MILES. That's who.
Posted on 11/5/16 at 6:03 pm to Roger Klarvin
Before the season I would have been OK with a loss to Ole Miss given how good they've been.
But as bad as they are now, if A&M loses to them, I don't wait until after the end of the season, I pull an LSU and fire Sumlin after that game. Maybe then we can avoid a wholesale recruiting loss (if we wait until after the season, no chance of mass defections)

Sumlin will be ousted after the LSU game. How much is the buyout?

Oh wait, you're serious about?!

Lost in all this is the fact that you have yet to say who you would hire? And you can't say Nick Saban...be realistic.
Fire away.
Fire away.

A list of possible candidates:
PJ Fleck
Les Miles (still think he would recruit Texas better than anyone)
Tom Herman
Kyle Wittingham
Bobby Petrino
Chris Petersen (rumored to have wanted to come her 3 years ago)
Bob Stoops (OU keeps pushing him out)
Mike Leach
DJ Durkin
Ken Niumatalolo
Bryan Harsin
Jeff Brohm
Pat Narduzzi

PJ Fleck
He's an interesting hire, but I doubt he can translate that success in the SEC when you consider his defenses aren't dominant. They're good, but you need more than good in this league.

Why would we hire a guy who got fired by LSU? He's about as stubborn as Sumlin. quote:
Tom Herman
He's rumored to be a MENSA member, but he sure as hell doesn't act like it. Also, he was given a program with good talent. Unproven builder and is also rumored to have told his team he is indeed gone...who says that to their team???
quote:
Kyle Wittingham
If Kyle Wittingham had been at A&M instead if Utah, he would have been fired a long time ago. If we don't have the patience to wait on Sumlin, we sure as hell aint waiting on this dude. Truth!
quote:
Bobby Petrino
Not only is he not coming here, but he NEVER beat Bama. NEVER.
quote:
Chris Petersen
That was 100% false because if it were true then it would have happened. Chris Petersen ain't leaving the Northwest.
quote:
Bob Stoops
He's not leaving Oklahoma unless they fire him. He's also stubborn when it comes to firing his brothers and has failed to win the big games.
quote:
Mike Leach
White Sumlin? He doesn't play defenses and his offense either works or it doesnt. He's not built to win in the SEC. We need defense to win in the SEC.
quote:
DJ Durkin
I honestly had to look up if he was still coaching after Michigan. It turns out he is. But he isn't even bowl eligible yet at Maryland. Completely unproven as HC
quote:
Ken Niumatalolo
quote:
Bryan Harsin
He inherited a very good program and it hasn't been as dominant as it was under Chris Petersen.
quote:
Jeff Brohm
Western Kentucky HC? You do know he's actually doing worse than he did last year? Also, his defense are no good. He would get destroyed by Saban.
quote:
Pat Narduzzi
Seriously? He's 5-4. For all I know, his ceiling will be 9 wins. At least recommend coaches who have at least 3 years under their belts as HV
Posted on 11/5/16 at 10:45 pm to Texas Weazel
Miles at least is a proven commodity who has recruited circles around Sumlin.
