Were did he come from? No power 5 offers so the staff must have felt they found something special.

Fort Bend Bush linebacker Kenneth Phillips III is simply a football player. One look at the film of the 5-foot-11.5, 205-pound defender shows that as he makes play after play.
Phillips has long been on the Texas A&M radar, but it seemed like his lack of ideal size for the linebacker spot held the Aggies back from offering. That changed in June, though, after Phillips dominated a camp in College Station. He picked up an offer at that point and, on Thursday, announced his commitment to A&M.
Phillips will be playing a bit of a new role in Aggieland.
"It's like a 'star' spot," he said of his projected position. "They said they're almost creating a position for me. It would be like a linebacker/safety position. I'm ready for it. I think I can do it, no problem."
Phillips says the coaching staff was a big part of why he chose to commit to the Aggies.
"Basically, they just treat me the best," he said about why he chose A&M. "It's a family culture, for sure, and they show the most interest."
Phillips had a very productive summer as he hit a number of school camps. He picked up offers at every camp he attended. When he arrived in College Station, Phillips admitted that he did not expect an offer from the Aggies. He did pick one up at the camp from Wake Forest, which had an assistant coach working the event. However, not long after, Texas A&M added its name to the mix as well. That was pretty much the only offer he needed.
"I had gone up there for camp....I really didn't want to, because my hamstring was hurting bad," he said at the time. "I was having to stretch it out a bunch right before. But I wanted to compete, so I couldn't sit and watch," Phillips said on Saturday."
He then received news of the offer from head coach Jimbo Fisher himself.

I thought he had offers from GT, Indiana and WF? Not that those are a super impressive list.

Ok thank you I missed that because well I sometimes forget those programs are Power 5.

Idk about a star spot but looks like a future Rover to me. Similar to Tarian Lee last year

I seem to remember us picking up another LB a few years back who wasn’t heavily recruited or highly ranked but was productive and a guy who always found a way to the ball. That ended up working out pretty well for us.

Hoping he grows some and can play Mike or Wil in a few years. Inside backers are so hard to find. I hope that is the plan anyway. Makes sense to start guys at rover to get them on the field, then move the one's that grow inside.

I’m hopeful this is a case where the guy jumps out to the coaches regardless of size and they feel like they have to offer. I have seen plenty of cases where a smaller guy actually has twice the pop and/or speed but gets overlooked.
Plus the word that the staff are looking to him be a hybrid LB/S type. Idk I just tend to appreciate the gamers over athletes- when people are both it’s unbelievable.

It sounds like that he’s a hidden gem.

I can’t help but think that even in the other timeline, where a&m is actually great at football, we’re still recruiting like shite at linebacker.

What is truly hard to understand to me is two fold -
1. We’ve had so many great LB’s in our history. But
2. How there’s not that many great LB’s in this state. I think the most fun position to play as an athlete would be LB. You’re the QB on the defensive side and you get to hit the shite out of people.

For the most part LB's that play HS ball in TX aren't LB material for the SEC. The elite guys are an exception but even then it's a crap shoot, Malik would have got eaten alive against SEC o-lines.

Dontae Manning just decommited from OU. Someone on TA said "FWIW, He's been wearing A&M shorts and an A&M wrist band in some of his Instagram live videos"

King
Eaton
Umanmielen

Will all happen before the end of the month. Jefferson will be encouraged to look elsewhere. We’ll hold spots for guys like Achane, Roy, Evans, etc.

Strong, to quite strong. Need another top level OL.

Next years OL class is so stacked, and our current situation so favorable with essentially all scholarship OL returning in 2020, that we can afford a subpar year there this year.
We’ll sign 4-5 national top-250 guys in 2021.

Dontae Manning isn't enamored with what the land thieves are selling. Interesting.
