The other side of the coin...does Frost want to come to A&M? He will likely have his pick of several coaching jobs. Not everyone wants to coach in the SEC West.

Lol once again, that doesn't mean we should hire Morris. If we can't get A, let's settle for B is a bad way to make a decision.
Posted on 11/6/17 at 2:04 pm to AggieDub14
Well option B is better than option C.....keeping sumlin.

I'm not advocating for his hire. I'm just telling you what's going to end up happening. It happened with Sherman. It happened with Sumlin. It will happen again.
Our boosters love good old boys. They can't help themselves.

Sumlin in 2011 was more proven than Morris in 2017. You know this is true.
If Morris loses to Memphis and no one else that will be 8-4 at SMU. We don't like 8-4 coaches folks.
I'm sorry but how do you have nuts to claim this when you admitted that you don't watch games from so called irrelevant conferences like the AAC and CUSA?
Aside from glancing at their records and maybe watching one game from each what exactly can you possibly know that makes that a valid claim in any way, shape, or form?
Looking at a W/L record and nothing else is the laziest, shallowest, most useless way of determining how well a coach is actually doing.

We are? I don’t know where people are thinking this is going to be a two phone call deal and be done. All we read is message board speculation from people that have zero ties to the big boosters or athletic director, so nobody truly knows what calls are going to be made. So stop freaking out like it’s a done deal already.
8-4 at smu is a pretty decent job considering their recent program history. We don’t know that Morris will be an 8-4 coach here: it’s a different conference, different school (private vs public), different atmosphere/environment, and much much more.
So stop melting over Morris potentially being as bad as sumlin, the only thing we know for sure is how sumlin will do at this school. Very average. Everything else is just speculation.

You want our boosters to not limit themselves to two options?? After only interviewing one candidate in 2008???
How long have you been an Aggie??? I'm telling you right now; you need to mentally prepare for Chad Morris. It's going to happen. Not hiring Chad Morris at this point would be the most un-aggy thing to do.

I disagree. We're going to take our shots and probably miss. We'll be ridiculed in the media and on message boards for why would so and so ever coach at A&M. Morris is the backup plan.

Upvoted because that Gif is money

All I know is the best team Morris has won against this year is Cincinnati and that probably won't change

Weird. It seems to me like I'm one of the few people not acting like it's a done deal.

I'm all for opening it up but I think we either get a 48 y/o Chad Morris or a 60 y/o Chad Morris. He will be an Aggie HC because that's what we do.

Ok let's go through that exercise.
Tier 1&2: Saban, Harbaugh, Swinney, Petersen, Shaw, Patterson, Franklin, Smart, Dantonio, Fisher, Gundy, Petrino, (did I miss someone).
None of these guys are coming for what we are paying. (~$7 mil)
Tier 3: Fuente, Mullen, etc (guys already at P5 jobs)
IF you want to make one of these guys a top 5 salary offer you might entice them. But good luck convincing yourself that they are a top 5 coach.
Stoops will never coach again. Miles probably won't either. Kelly probably won't coach at a P5 school until his show cause goes away.
What's remaining?
Campbell (ISU), Morris (SMU), Frost (UCF), MacIntyre?, Fleck?
The reason we are talking about the same 2-3 names is because that's the market right now.

It's starting to look like Fisher - recruiting should do pretty well if that is the case

do we really want a guy who just got blown out by boston college?

Who would want a guy who was able to beat out all the programs who recruit in Flordia for years with a national championship and multiple p5 championships to his resume

I don't see how hiring Morris would represent a typical choice for us.
If it is because he is an A&M graduate, we haven't done that since Gene Stallings in the 1960s. But I don't really know all the backgrounds of coaches between D.X. Bible and Stallings.
We have several times hired as head coaches men who previously were assistants at A&M, such as Sumlin, Sherman, and Slocum. Morris was never an assistant at A&M, that I know of.
He has head coaching experience, deep ties in the state, and done good work at Clemson and SMU. That's why he might be our next coach. I don't think it is because he fits some past pattern, or is a crony of Buzbee, plays golf with a regent, etc.

Morris would've been a solid hire based solely on his resume as Clemson OC. With a bare handful of exceptions (none of which we've got the juice to hire, lol if you believe this Jimbo shite) coaches are crapshoots. If Morris will give us a hometown discount, I'm happy to roll the dice.
